That means the drives in most of the park will be mainly for recreational use.

The four transverse roads – which link the east and west sides of Manhattan -are below park level. They’ll remain open to cars.

Mayor Bill de Blasio had announced the vehicle ban earlier in June. It also applies to parts of Prospect Park in Brooklyn.

Cars were previously banned in parts of Central Park during the last two summers.

B’YH, 13th Avenue should be next. The traffic, noise and pollution are killing the community. A mile-long pedestrian mall with bike paths would make this truly beautiful area for the heimeshe tzibur that rarely gets to use Central Park. Ultimately, we are going to have to ban cars in most of Willy and BP since the area is simply too dense to allow selfish individuals to drive when the options of biking and walking with no pollution or noise are readily available.
