Borough Park, NY - While most Jews will spent the next few days preparing for the upcoming holidays, one organization is busy making sure that even the neediest in Brooklyn -the capital of Jewish poverty- will have a "sweet" New Year. Volunteering in the Soup-Kitchen will be no one other then NYS Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos.

MASBIA, NY's only Kosher soup kitchen open regularly five days a week, will be serving meals throughout the Jewish New Year to meet the needs of some of the city's poorest Jews.

"MASBIA won't be taking a holiday vacation and nether is the Senator take off on the weekend," said Alexander Rapaport, one of the founders of the soup kitchen. "As the holiday draws near, the phones are ringing off the hook with people looking for a holiday meal."

”Serving people with dignity is very important in the current economic time, because we have professional people who held good paying jobs up until recently they are very embarrassed to ask for help. They don’t even know how to get Food-Stamps; we have to refer them to an enrolment office,” He Said.

Four o’clock on Sunday, September 28, Senator Skelos will be wearing a different hat. He will have an opportunity to see the plight of hungry New Yorkers firsthand and will help feed them.

Up until the last minute the organization wasn't sure whether they would be able to open on the holidays, because of the costs involved. In addition to regular clientele, a invitation went out to 400 single mothers and their children notifying them that MASBIA would be serving food over the holidays.

“Tradition has it that on Rosh Hashana, also known as "Judgment Day", Jews are supposed to eat lavish meals that include meat and fish, Pomegranate, carrots, honey and apples, round bread that has no ends. "We are told to prepare for judgment as if we were going to win," said Rapaport. Meals will include Salmon and White Fish, Steak, Chicken, and a variety of kugels.

With the proliferation (and dilution of the founders' purity of purpose) of benevolent organizations, it's nice to see one organization, [MASBIA] standing strong and serving [so] many people at the grass roots level, with high quality food in an aesthetic environment, with dignity! I've been fortunate to observe their operation from close range. Such a place [and another, similar one with the same purpose, in the basement of Shomrei Shabbos Shul, (through the personal, tireless efforts of R. M. M.)] deserves the full support of the public!!!!!!!

Time and again its proven that Republican politicians understand Frum jews better, but most still vote Democrat in local and national elections. Are money programs your main concern?! How about the degenerate education and promotion by the Democrat Left!

Your comment is very much to the point, but it [probably] belongs to another thread (Theme)!!!
