New York City - Bloomberg Officially Announces “I Am A Candidate For A 3rd Term” |
|
In a live news conference that is being held now, the mayor would not specify how the law should be changed, but said the City Council was still discussing the issue. He said that revising the law would merely give voters another choice and said that voters would be free in 2009 to re-elect him — or not.
“Everything we do is controversial,” he said in response to a reporter’s question. “That’s what democracy is all about. … What it just does is it gives voters another option. … They just have another choice.”
He later added, “I still think term limits are a good thing. I talked to Harry Reid this morning. He is opposed to term limits. He called me to tell me that he thinks we should get rid of term limits everyplace in this country. I don’t happen to agree in that.”
He continued, “Two terms or three terms I think is a very different debate.”

This guy is such a hypocrite.
Anyone remember after 9-11 when Rudy Guliani wanted to stay on the job untill he finishes the cleaning process on ground zero?
Our own Mayor Bloomberg opposed him and said by hook or by crook this will never happen!
So my fellow people, will you vote for Bloomberg again!
He's raised your tolls everywhere.
Hes raised your taxas .
He wants to impose a new toll on midtown manahatten.
He has raised hell for truckers & buses.

What kind of idiots does he take us for? “I’m just giving the people another option on the ballot” I remember the public voting against that (it’s a philosophy bigger than any single office). He’s just made a mockery term of democracy. & The fact that there wasn’t time to put it up for vote, this idiot admits to have been toying with the idea for a long time.

These people just can’t get enough power, can they? Now that he’s not running for president, he’ll stick around another term so he can throw his hat into the presidential ring in 2012. I’ve had about enough of ambitious politicians who think only of themselves. The term limits are there for a reason. Bloomberg would do well to respect them.

This mayor has got to go.
Americans are fed up with politically entrenched
and emboldened politicians.
Mr Bloomberg, and the city counsel members who write the legislation to overturn the existing LAW on term limits, will ALL be very sorry.
A very disgruntled Boro Parker.
We don’t NEED him for another term.

I’m against it. Although I think he is a better mayor than any of the contenders would be, I don’t like the idea of changing the rules during the middle of the game. He knew the rules when he signed on. This feels like cheating to me.

It’s extraordinarily arrogant of Bloomberg to feel as if the city will just not be able to function without him. He may have been a capable guardian during a difficult period, but eight years later, our schools have still not significantly improved (unless you count test scores) and I do not see any true lasting legacy of his administration. Certainly, Bloomberg may be able to accomplish more as a private citizen than as mayor.
In 2001, former Mayor Giuliani thought we couldn’t live without him, and well, I guess we did alright with Bloomberg. And what did Giuliani go on to do - he ran two disastrous campaigns for the Senate and Presidency. So I guess we were probably better off without him.
Term limits were imposed for a reason, just like government regulation should exist for a reason. Its easy to forget the need for these limits when everything seems rosy, but clearly, everyone should now understand full well why they should exist.

You'r right we do not have any candidates as of now who we can say that is great for our city, that said I would like to propose Term Limits for Senators so people like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid wouldn't be sitting on their high horse you know whats.

I hope that he and all the city council guys including Simcha Felder whos terms are up LOOSE big time.
The people of the city voted TWICE for the term limits so politicians like Bloomberg and Felder dont get too comfy after 8 years and now Bloomberg wants to change it with the approval of the City Council who will aprove it so they can keep their jobs.

He is great presidential material. I do not live in NYC anymore, but he has done great things for the city, including stopping crime, overhauling the educational system, and keeping the city clean. What I like about him is that he runs the city like a company not like a politician.
If I was still living in NYC, I absolutely would vote for him.

He's done a much better job than I had expected and although I'm against chaning the term limit law for the benefit of one man's election, I'd probably vote for him considering the announced contenders. He's certainly better than Rudy.

You owe Felder a public apolagy, He didn't do anything regarding the term limits. This is a Bloomberg thing and not a Felder. It's before Yom Kippur.

#26, what part of it's a slap in the face of democracy don't you understand? This has nothing to do with bloomberg it's a philosophy voted on by the people not allowing these guys in general to become rulers. He believes term limitsto be a good thing, but that he's the only man that has what it takes to run the city -a little self-serving no?

Felder is the Chairman of the commitee that can overturn what the people voted in.
Being that Felder lost his run for the Senate so it is in his and 29 other City council members best interest to overturn what the people voted for.
