At the recent wedding of his brother Charles, the retired Seagram's chairman told us, "People were saying, ‘No way am I voting for Obama.' They don't trust him. They think he's a Muslim — all sorts of misguided nonsense." Bronfman, whose new book is "Hope, Not Fear: A Path to Jewish Renaissance," also doesn't buy GOP pledges to protect Israel: "Sarah Palin is against most of the things that Jews stand for."

Read his interview in NY times magazine on shabbos. This guy is senile. He says we must welcome intermarried people into judaism and the faith and then two minutes later says he donates money to jewish organizations because intermarriage is our biggest crisis. What about Obama's church where the meshuggene preacher said "G-D Damn America" and claimed the CIA invented AIDS to kill blacks? What about Obama accepting support from William Ayers, of the "Weatherman" 1960's terrorist bombers? To claim Obama didn't know anything about Ayers is ridiculous, Ayers bragged about himself and said he is sorry he did not do more damage. If Obama is really that clueless about Ayers then he is too stupid to be President.
Lastly, I can not understand the phobia that some Yidden have for Christian evangelicals. They are the biggest friends and supporters of Israel ever! They are more loyal to Israel than most Israelis are.

To say that reform Jews are not really Jews is stupid. Only G-D will decide who has been right or wrong in life...no other Jew can take away any anothers Jewishness ...period. I am not a frum Jew but neither am I a reform Jew. The reform have bent many rules but they will still (like it or not) always be Jewish.

As far as "only one in a hundred death sentences in America passing muster under halacha," I suggest to the commentor that he actually study halacha before revealing his ignorance. Since a ben Noach is liable to execution for violating any of the Sheva Mitzvot, including stealing anything worth over about 3 cents, and can be convicted on circustansial evidence, or any type of testimony, the problem today is that not enough death sentences are being passed down in America - if you really want to know what halacha has to say about that.
Since Bronfman is a strong supporter of Peace Now-type groups and others who are willing to cripple Israel in favor of the Palestinians, I would say that his endorsement of Obama is a ringing clarion call for Torah- and Israel- true Jews to vote for the McCain-Palin ticket.

Are you aware the "Mayanot" program for Orthodox youth was discontinued because it was being used to influence youth away from the Torah? The rabbonim warned against sending kids on this program because too many went of the derech on these trips.

Oy, you do not realize that the President of the United States is not allowed to criticize the Methodist Church (or any other church, synagogue or mosque) for its policies, because of the separation of church and state in the U.S. President Bush attends services at an Episcopal church.
BTW the Clintons belong to the Methodist Church and attended its services so when did you ever hear Bill or Hillary Clinton criticize the Methodist church?
Obama, on the other hand, attended a church for 20 years where the minister shouted "G-D damn America" and we are supposed to think that this is a better person to be President?

Even given that the misguided (literally) members of the Conservative and Reform movements are our brothers and sisters - and in the Reform movement, with "patrilineal descent" that is becoming less and less likely - that does not give a member of that movement any right to advise Jews who follow authentic Judaism. I love my grandchildren, and will do anything to ensure their wellbeing, but they certainly don't have the grounding and experience in Jewish Hashkafah to tell me whom to vote for.
As far as the Torah mandating an abortion to save the mother's life, as correctly noted by "Frum Dem", the Torah also mandates killing, if necessary, any pursuer to save the victim's life. I am sure that Frum Dem therefore encourages arming everybody over thirteen to facilitate this mitzvah, regardless of the fact that this might lead to killing a hundred times as many innocents as it would save.
In fact, the Torah mandates killing a doctor about to perform an abortion on a Jewish woman in a non-life-threatening situation.
This ignores the issue of "partial birth abortions" - i.e., the baby is killed after it has crowned. The Torah absolutely forbids this, even at the cost of the mother's life.
And then there the is unfortunate reality that if a baby survives an abortion (possible in saline abortions), in Illinois, that baby was simply put aside to die. When four bills were introduced to halt this appalling practice, Obama voted against them all four times.
So, "Frum Dem": would you support a candidate who allowed abortions only in life-and-death circumstances over one who considers abortion a "private issue" available for the mother's convenience?

who are any of you to say what is "authentic" and what isnt? how do any of us even know? what is the barometer of authentic practice of judaism anyway? midwood? i think not. and who are any of you to decide with which "movement" he is associated? do you just make this stuff up? why is one askan better to you than he other?
