Rockland County, NY - In response to being hit with a new lawsuit at Tuesday night’s meeting, East Ramapo school board President Yehuda Weissmandil fired back Wednesday, calling the suit “ironic” and scolding that the new suit will only serve to increase “the very legal fees they are complaining about.”

LOHUD.com (http://lohud.us/1M4JRSj) reports that Weissmandi called the timing of the parent-led lawsuit “ironic” in that the board just last month made the cost-cutting decision to switch from a Long Island-based legal team to a New York City law firm in order to save on travel expenses.

“It will only siphon off resources that could be used for school programs,” Weissmandi said.

It is also of note that one of the people serving the papers publicly called the Board of Ed members Pontius Pilate and Nazis.

This is a hateful, anti Semitic vendetta.

The board is also being sued personally which will cost each one a lot of money since the insurance company will not pay for their suits. Probably a good idea to resign now. I wouldn't want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars of my own gelt. A lot more civil suits are being drawn up. Just give the kids art, science, foreign languages, and music and remove the black mold from the ceilings and everyone will be happy.

The Board members like all governmental officials are covered for all reasonable legal fees. So if it takes a million dollars for each board member to defend themselves it would come out of the District's budget... This suit may prevent the state from appointing a school monitor unless the state want to get involved in the case.. Because once the state is evolved they will have to say in court why they are under funding the district.

These kids get everything they need plus. There is no mold in there buildings, they have beautiful and spacious classrooms with big play areas and some even have gardens and pets.

You can lead the horse to water but you can't make them drink and a lot of kids there have no desire to learn. Whoever wants to learn does and whoever doesn't won't even if you give them every extra curricular activity out there.

My kids get one thing and one thing only and that is buses and that too is a nightmare. No way to track where the kids are and if your kids are late coming home you shiver to think who they are on the bus with.

Plenty a kid has been dropped off nowhere near their home and had to walk home alone.

If a kid wants to learn they can learn just fine with what they get. This is pure anti-semitism that is sadly supported by yiden.

If anything was cut they should complain to the state to give them more money, not spend their time on stupid lawsuits and protests.

They should enroll all the frum kids into public school, to show everyone the cost involved, if the system had to absorb all of these kids.

So, in other words if I don't surrender my money - in this case called tax - it's a chilul Hashem???

How about you stepping up to the plate and paying the short-fall? How about those folks who want toys for their school kids collect money for this great deed? They want me to fund it as a taxpayer?

Thanks for being concerned about our gelt. I agree that only those with children in public school should be permitted to serve on the board. All those who pay tuition to private school should not be permitted to serve on the board, they should also not have to pay the school portion of their tremendous property taxes. Can we all agree on that?

You obviously don't know what you are talking about. Have you not seen the hundreds of pictures of mold in all of the schools? How about the dead rats in one part of the building?

Black mold can cause cancer and it's in most of the buildings. Educate yourself. Mold is not anti semitism. I'm frum. Stop it already.

The insurance company said it will not cover this board because of the state and federal investigation and the state said the amount of money spent is excessive. The board is being sued personally to reclaim the legal fees already spent. Read the court documents. I have!

Yes it's a big chillul hashem you can have on the board a non yid and do the same. We are in gules yidden shouldn't rule. Again I agree that you have to cut taxes but it can be done in different ways.

Boo-hoo. In a responsible elected position, one of your jobs is to develop at least some degree of consensus. They've invited these lawsuits with their confrontational and likely illegal behavior, and deserve whatever it costs them personally. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the fire, and leave big responsibilities to mature adults who come to the position with a basic understanding of civics.

I actually did see a few of their buildings and saw no mold at all. I saw what I posted above.

Look again. The mold is being investigated. Are you a mold remediation company? Read their reports and then come back and tell us how you didn't see any mold!!! They took samples and analysed the samples. Did you?

Then boys would have to sit next to girls. Are you ok with that? Do you think tax dollars should pay for separate schools? That's illegal, but I guess you don't care about laws.

The state says the board spent 2 million dollars extra. 2 million is considered unreasonable. For this reason, the board's insurance company refuses to pay for legal fees, so the parents sued the board personally. Although the board, most of them, don't even have GEDs, many are slumlords and are multi millionaires. The slumlords have been fined according to the news, but I don't know if they paid their fines.

Here it is not the State suing the board but a private citizen group . The board's legal expenses are covered by taxpayer funds, the Board of Ed's Budget.. What the Board should do is.reallocate say one million dollars per board member for legal defense l fees. taking these funds from the public school operating budget . At $9 million that will mean the public school will lose of 90 teaching positions resulting in larger classes. The legal fees could still be reasonable but you have to estimate what the legal cost for each board member will be.for the balance of this year including future suits..

False. The insurance company denied payment of legal fees since the state claims the fees are excessive by 2 million dollars. The taxpayers sued the board to get the money back, plus there is an additional suit against the board members personally. Read the documents before you give your uneducated advice. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL NOT PAY AND THE STATE SAYS THE BOARD CANNOT USE SCHOOL FUNDS.

Did you look at any of the mold pictures all over the news? The mold was tested by the state and mold companies. Because you didn't see it, does it mean it doesn't exist? Pictures today came out showing the moldy rooves which are all black. A pilot flew over and published the pictures. Were you on the roof also that you claim you saw no mold?
