Ocean Township, NJ – An aggressive campaign is underway by local residents of Ocean Township to put the kibosh on plans by Yeshiva Gedola Na’os Yaakov to convert an existing Yeshiva day school located at 1515 Logan Rd. into a boarding school for 96 students ranging in ages from 18-22.

NJ.com (http://bit.ly/1MPrO4a) reports that locals are so opposed to the conversion that over 1,000 opponents recently overflowed a July 15 meeting on the matter, causing local fire marshals to seek a new venue.
Reps for Yeshiva Gedola Na’os Yaakov, whose main campus is located in nearby Lakewood, say the location is perfect for the self-contained, secluded setting they are seeking for the school’s 18-22 year-old students as they pursue their religious studies.
Local residents argue that the “influx” of 96 “young adults” will drive their property values down while “altering” the community’s “make-up,” as well.
Roman Storzer, an attorney representing Yeshiva Gedola Na’os Yaakov in the matter, said the school has cleared every hurdle with regard to land use interests, and that Yeshiva Gedola Na’os Yaakov would also be “renovating the property, making it much more harmonious.”
The matter is scheduled to be taken up again at a September 15 meeting, though no location has been announced.
i guess Lakewood is getting too small and they are doing the same as Kiryas Joel.

According to the article the problem is the dorms. the neighbors don’t want 96 new student voters in their neighborhood especially as they will vote as a block. This is the same thing as in Bloomingburg. NY. Prior to the Satmars moving in only 25 votes were cast in the mayoral election out of 400 voters. They fear that the yeshiva will takeover the town.
