Manhattan, NY - Is Lincoln Tunnel Being Tested? Does Security Fail Us? |
|
The incidents have caused massive traffic delays, as authorities shut down the tunnel in both directions, but none of the bottles contained anything dangerous.
The idiot first struck on Sept. 5, leaving "3 plastic heart shaped bottles" - one decorated with a "smiley" face - glued to a concrete barrier on the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel. Another bottle had a ''gray wire inside" and a message, "don't look at me." The suspect struck again Wednesday where two "red sealed bottles glued" near a lamp post. and then again this past Friday, but has yet to be caught on camera.
During Friday evening's rush hour, the discovery of two suspicious bottles filled with an unknown liquid and also glued to the median forced Port Authority police to close down the Lincoln Tunnel for hours.
"I would say they're studying what's going on at the tunnel," said Paul Nunziato of the Port Authority P.B.A. "Because they've been able to do it, 7 bottles placed on one of the busiest roadways in the world and no one sees them no one caught an eye on them, including the cameras."
It's clear that someone or some group is behind all three incidents, the question -- is it a prank or a test? If it's a test, one security expert says the Port Authority fails.
"The next question they need to ask is this, what are we doing wrong? Have we cut back on our security procedures? have we changed something that is easily detectable by an outside person?" explained Nicholas Casale, former deputy security director of MTA.
What's changed, according to the union, is a cut-back in patrols at the Lincoln and Holland tunnels. Sources say the cut back is as much as 40-percent. Port Authority documents show that on at least 3 days in the past month, there were "no police vehicles available for mobile patrols" on the overnight shift at the tunnel.
"The terrorist threat still exists. The perpetrator, bin Laden, is still out there, so it's not a time now to relax," Casale said.
While the police cutbacks continue, the Port Authority continues to try to figure out who's behind the suspicious bottles and the paralyzing traffic jams.
A spokesman for the Port Authority refused to comment on the police cutbacks and on the suspicious incidents would only say "they are under investigation."
U/D: 04:54pm
Police have arrested a Sussex County, New Jersey man in the series of incidents at the Lincoln Tunnel.

So that's why so many people didn't get home to teaneck last Friday night till 8 P.M. Kudos to Rabbi Sobolovsky for sending a Shabbos Goy to carry bus passengers' possessions for them. Advice: tune your computer to WCBS and listen Friday afternoons for traffic problems. Also, understand when you only leave yourself two hours to get home that your co-workers don't give you more credit than if you left four hours before Shabbos.

As the time for Moshiach comes closer, the world becomes filled with FEAR.--FEAR of terrorists, FEAR of financial collapse, FEAR of hurricanes and floods, FEAR of Iran's nuclear weapons (and Syria, too), FEAR of OBAMA!
This is required, in order to prepare everyone to welcome Moshiach with relief and joy, when he appears.

The question is...What kind of camera system runs 24/7 but doesn't capture someone leaving bottles?

"The idiot first struck"-why is this mysterious person an idiot? In fact, he's obviously quite intelligent, or else he wouldn't be able to do this without getting caught.

I work near the Lincoln Tunnel - there is often a backup on Friday afternoon, even without a security scare. On a Friday, you should ALWAYS leave twice as much time as you normally would. and then some.
