Jerusalem - Religious Jewish Music Stars and Politics—Is Lipa Schmeltzer Ushering In A New Era for Israel? AUDIO |
|
In a techno-style jingle that hit the Internet today, it couldn't be clearer who Chassidic fusion superstar Lipa Schmeltzer is endorsing in Jerusalem's upcoming mayoral contest. Or can it be?
Case in point: this isn't the first time in history a recording artist's talents have been used by political campaigns in Israel, America and elsewhere. And some of those artists' political views may have been the opposite of those they ostensibly campaigned for.
But this seems to be the first time a frum singer's vocals are behind not a band but a candidate.
Lipa tells VIN News that he isn't endorsing Rabbi Porush. But then why is he singing his praises—quite literally?

There are American laws that say that if you endorse or are a paid endorser of a product, you have to actually use or endorse the product.
This came to a head when Joe Namath endorsed a pair of panty hose. The law was amended to include situations where the endorser (for various reasons) does not have to actually use the product. Joe Namath (am I aging myself?) actually did a commercial wearing the aforementioned product.\
If Mr. Shmetlzer sells his voice for a product, he had better sell his soul to that product. Otherwise, he should have a disclamer that Jewish oriented papers have when they take advertising for traif products

What a talent! He could make up a jingle about a potato if he wanted and it would be an instant classic.

There was a group called the Rabbi's Sons. They were made up by guys taht went to Yeshiva University and Chofetz Chaim.
Rabbi Leibowitz called in the Chofetz Chaim guys and gave them a choice - either be singers or stay in Yeshiva. They chose to stay in yeshiva.
Show business is not a place for frum Yidden. There are too many distractions and too much guyva for the individuals to have. From the reports that we see of the 'frum' singers that made it big, we will be better off if they stay in Yeshiva.

This is what I meant: 'Fans' that should be spending their time in pursuit of a parnossa or learning Torah. Instead, spending money that could go to tzedaka, wasting it on a 'jewish' pop star.
What a waste.

Lipa is doing a great job, has been doing for a great job since he started singing as a little kid. There are always critics but that is a part of the game some like it and some don't. I have enjoyed Lipa's singing always and I wish him much luck and much hatzlacha in whatever he does.
Lipa keep up the good work.
