New York, NY – Bayonne resident and 9/11 survivor Marcy Borders, who will forever be remembered as the “Dust Lady” due to the iconic images of her emerging from the Lower Manhattan rubble covered in ash, died on Tuesday following a year-long bout with stomach cancer.

NJ.com (http://bit.ly/1KLDJKF) reports that Borders’ brother Michael announced the passing of his sister on Facebook late Tuesday evening, posting, “I can’t believe my sister is gone.”
Borders struggled post-9/11, battling drug and alcohol abuse stemming from depression brought on by the event, but following a 2011 rehab stint the mother of two had managed to stay clean and had resumed her life until August of 2014 when doctors informed her that she had cancer.
Borders publicly wondered whether her cancer was 9/11-related, telling the Jersey Journal, “I’m saying to myself, ‘Did this thing ignite cancer cells in me?’ I definitely believe it because I haven’t had any illnesses.”
New York City mayor Bill De-blasio tweeted “Marcy Borders’ passing is a difficult reminder of the tragedy our city suffered nearly 14 years ago. NYC holds her loved ones in our hearts.”
Missing from the article was her age at time of death: 42.
SHAME on all of those nasty people who question giving benefits to survivors of 9/11. Condolences to the family of this fine, brave woman.
Rest in peace
