The 67 year old man was walking to his home near 44th Street and 9th Avenue at approximately 9:30 AM on June 23rd when he was attacked by a suspect who was described as a dark skinned male. Police said that the assailant punched the victim in the face repeatedly while making anti-Semitic statements. The assailant fled the scene and the victim was taken to Lutheran Medical Center with bruising and swelling to his face, eye and head.
While police had hoped that the victim could identify his attacker from a photo array, he was unable to do initially because of the injuries sustained in the attack, which included facial contusions and a black eye.
“He was in the hospital for an extended period of time and due to injuries in his face he was unable to view the photo array,” police told VIN News.
The victim was transferred from the hospital to New York University’s Rusk Rehabilitation to recuperate from his injuries.
Police brought in a sketch artist after the victim was unable to identify his attacker from police photographs once he had finally recovered sufficiently to view the photo array. The assailant, has a beard, moustache and a prominent birthmark on his left cheek.
Anyone with any information on the attack is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS or to submit tips at www.NYPDCrimeStoppers.com or to text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and then enter TIP577.
