Lakewood, NJ – A Lakewood mother and her two small children remain hospitalized this morning after being struck by a car on Route 9 last night.

The names of the victims have not been released, but Lakewood police said that they are a 27 year old mother and her two children ages four and one. All three victims, who were struck by a Lincoln Town Car heading north on Route 9 near Edgewood Court just before 10 PM, were transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center. Both children sustained serious head injuries and are listed in critical condition. The mother, who sustained facial lacerations, is in stable condition.
The driver of the Town Car was a 50 year old man from Tom’s River.
Route 9 remained closed for approximately four hours last night between Central Avenue and Pine Street as the accident was investigated by the Lakewood Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
