Alaska’s governor and congressional delegation have praised the long-sought change, which was announced Sunday. But stripping the mountain of its name honoring former President William McKinley, a son of Ohio, drew criticism from Ohio lawmakers.

Kasich, who is running for the Republican presidential nomination, said during a campaign stop in Michigan that the name should remain McKinley.

“You just don’t go and do something like that,” Kasich said. “In Ohio, we felt it was appropriate. A guy saw that mountain when he was one of the first up there … named it after the president. No reason to change it.”

GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump weighed in as well, calling the change a “great insult to Ohio.” On Twitter, Trump wrote, “I will change back!”

House Speaker John Boehner and Rep. Bob Gibbs, both Ohio Republicans, also oppose the decision, with Gibbs calling it a political stunt insulting to all Ohioans.

Why are the feelings of the Ohioans any more important than the Alaskans?

These political hacks in Ohio have no basis for demanding to name a mountain in Alaska that for hundreds of years went by the native name of Denali. Maybe we should rename Columbus, Ohio (the state Capital) to Metzenbaum, Ohio to honor an ehrliche yid and the State’s most important senator.

Manhattan will revert back to Amsterdam?
    Wasn’t that it’s name?
What about the Washington Red Skins? Are we reverting back to that too?

To #3- As a resident of Columbus, Ohio, the name Metzenbaum should be reserved for Cleveland, since Sen. Howard Metzenbaum was from Cleveland, and not Columbus. Incidentally, I have no problem with Mt. McKinley being renamed Denali. Incidentally, New York International Airport (a/k/a Idlewild) was renamed John F. Kennedy International Airport, in 1963. I’ve always felt that Logan Airport in Boston, should have been renamed for JFK, as JFK was from Boston, and not NYC.

McKinley was a Republican. Betcha Obama wouldn’t change the name if it was Mt. Roosevelt or Mt. Kennedy.

    Mr. Trump:

I don’t disagree that Obama’s actions should be reversed by the next president (whether you or another candidate). I just feel that the name change issue is pretty low on the list of priorities. I would start with security/safety on our borders, the Iran Deal, Obamacare, and lots of more critical ones.

Don’t the republicans always argue for state rights?

If Alaskan’s feel that some Ohio politician named a mountain after him, to what he had no connection. Isn’t it up to Alaskan’s to decide? and they want the name change.

I think that Lake Superior ought to be given back its Native American name: Gitchigoomee. However, if Canada, who has dominion over part of the lake should object, may I suggest that we change the name of Lake Superior to Lake Shapiro, after the revered president of the University of Michigan, a state that lies on this, the greatest of the Great Lakes.

Shapiros have done for the United States than Superiors ever did, don’t you agree?
