Uman - Hasidic Jews preparing for the upcoming pilgrimage to Uman witnessed the destruction of their costly equipment and security fences by nearly 100 Ukrainian nationalists this past Shabbos, rendering the Hasidim powerless to do anything but watch. Observers report that though police were called to the scene, they failed to intercede and diplomatic channels have not yielded any suspects, according to a report by Ynet News (http://bit.ly/1hRMn2V).

“On Shabbat, when they knew we wouldn’t be able to respond or activate the communication device, they simply knocked down the fence, pushed the light poles and security cameras and caused damage estimated at half a million dollars,” said Eliezer Kirshboim, chairman and director of the Jewish association in Uman.

The hostile attitude and harassment against the Hasidim has persisted despite the fact that the Jews have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in the City. Kirschboim said the intention of the nationalistic groups is to discourage Hasidim from coming to the Ukraine at all because of the intimidation.

Kirshboim explained that the so-called right-wing activists “harass the Jewish Hasidim” in an effort to garner good will and political points with the local community. “Whoever harasses the Hasidim more has a better chance of winning the elections in October. There is a crazy state of anarchy. All they want is a bribe and to prove they are harassing Hasidim.”

So absurd, Breslover's have brought in millions of Dollars over the years into this small local economy.

I believe no Jew should spend a dime in the Ukraine. Jews belong at home on Yom Tov. Maybe their wives hired goons because they are fed up with this insanity.

Sad to say but I'm actually happy that this occurred. What will it take for these mindless Breslov to once and for all stop this annual madness and rushing to the most anti-Semitic location on earth to party at Rav Nachman's kever. Aside from the disruption to thousands of yideshe families each year on Rosh Hashana and waste of tens of millions of NIS which benefit primarily these sadistic anti-semitim, they distort the message of Rav Nachman since the event has become more of a goiyeshe style "new age gathering" than anything remotely resembling a torahdik event. There are plenty of kivrei tzadikim in EY and NYC...no need to continue this circus and hopefully this past shabbos' event will discourage people from coming to Uman.

To go to Uman to support a country known for its large population of anti Semites seems stupid to me.

Bring Rebbe Nachman to Israel, maybe Safad, then make your pilgrimage there. What mitzvah is there to support our enemies?

Na Nisht Nachman b'Uman no more

Why go to daven in Ukraine, whose soil is soaked with Jewish blood, when you can take a plane directly to daven at Hashem's palace, the Kosel and mekomos kedoshim in Eretz Yisrael? Our generation needs to work on acquiring a love and appreciation of Eretz Yisrael. They need to stop romanticizing Europe, which is filled with hatred and anti Semitic vermin.

Why are you only carried away about Breslov going to Uman? Every chassidus has chassidim flying from around the world to their Rebbes on Rosh Hashanah. If chassidim feel inspired at wherever they are for RH, why scoff at them and why should it bother you? If you're jealous, pick yourself up and go to a Rebbe of you're liking. You'll be highly surprised at the hisorerus one acquires these 2 days.

It will probably take c'v a violent assault or murder of some of these pilgrims before they realize what a hellhole is Uman....dig up the bones of Rav Nachman and move them to one of several beautiful locations near har habayis or on the beach at Tel Aviv where it would become one of the biggest tourist attractions in all of EY and bring hundreds of thousands of frei yidden annually to seek some mystical healing at his kever on the ocean.

Because of the human and social costs this mindless migration to Uman incurs. It requires diverting security forces from EY to try to protect the chassidim (which they cannot really do well in a foreign country) and disrupts family life for thousands of families where the wives and children are left at home by themselves. One can acquire the hisorerus and spiritual uplift in much less destructive ways.

I am not an Uman fan. But you can make the same argument against going to the reba rev mailech in lezhinsk as well.

You misinterpret the very words you literally quote and yes, anachnu
"omrim shira" Chazal bring down that in cases of pikuach nefesh, its ok to speak approvingly of near-term events that cause short-term pain and suffering for the sake of longer term avoidance of shedding blood and much greater levels of pain and suffering.

You seem to only be aware of what's reported in the media. For your information, every single chassidus have thousands flying to the Rebbe for Rosh Hashana leaving their wives and children behind. There's nothing destructive about it. If anything, they come home inspired and derhoiben for the entire year.

You have evidently never read any of the tzadik books or ''shivche ho'ran'' to have such an opinion The rebbe said that he wishes his followers to visit him on rosh ha'shona as he performs the greatest tikun for them '' there is nothing greater''
The custom is to visit the rebby erev rosh ha'shona and to say 10 kapitlach tehillim and give a coin to tzedakah as he directed, before he departed this world.
There is no greater davening than the minyan in Uman. Everyone will tell you that.

Dear Chaim Yankel:
I don't see thousands of Satmar flying from Europe, Australia and EY to spend Rosh Hashanah in Monsey or Chabad Shalichim and chassidim flying into to JFK and camping out at the Ohel for two days and tanzin along the Brooklyn Queens Expressway. Yes, the men do run off and leave their families and they may come home "inspired" (although the substance abuse in Uman is "inspiring") but the women left at home by themselves with 6 kids who cannot go to shul and have no help are not inspired but obviously most are too intimidated by tradition to voice their opposition.

Not sure these guys were much help to their wives and families even when they are home. Anyone who can justify spending their money on a trip to Ukraine on yom tov when the rest of us are willing to make any sacrifice to be WITH our families is nuts and plain wrong.
My grandpa (Z''L) was from Ukraine and he told me that the hatred there of Jews was so bad that you could save a kid from a burning building and there would be a Ukrainian with a hammer to hit you in the head as you came out.
That said, I am not sure I blame locals for this annual disruption. When thousands of Bobovers come to South Brunswick, NJ, to the Rebbe's ohel, the entire goes on lockdown and local law enforcement is out in force to help make sure that there are no problems for locals or visitors. And we are a First World nation!

Yea that was wayyyyyyy before the holocaust where these Jew hating murderes had a great hand in taking joy killing Jews. I'm sure Reb Nachman would say "stay away from here"!!

Is everything tied to money? What about the thousands of dollars wasted in travel expenses by people whose only result of the trip is the loss of their travel expenses. Bring Reb Nachman to a safe place then you could go visit anytime.
BTW out of the 25,000 people who go on Rosh Hashana, how many were helped parnasah wise, and how do you know that praying to Hashem ANYWHERE wouldn't get you the same or better results than G-d forbid prying inadvertently to a man that I know some do.
