Jerusalem – In another sign of israeli palestinian tensions, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat — a former military officer and licensed gun owner — defended his decision to carry a weapon during a visit this week to an Arab neighborhood. On Thursday, he encouraged other licensed gun owners to also carry their weapons.

“One of the advantages Israel has is that there are many veterans of military units with operational combat experience,” he said. “Having a weapon increases the resident’s confidence.”
According to the municipality, Barkat was carrying his licensed Glock pistol on a recent tour of Beit Hanina with police to improve the security of Jerusalem’s light rail as well as last February when he thwarted a terrorist attack against a haredi man.
“Given the current escalation [of violence] in the security situation, those with a licensed firearm who know what to do with it must go out with [their weapon] – it’s an imperative,” Barkat told Army Radio on Thursday. “In a way, it’s like military reserve duty.”
Ashdod police commander Noam Shekel also advocated for civilians with gun licenses to carry weapons with them in light of the serious security situation in Israel.
every jew a 22.
How about a Tehilim??
A strong hand is the prevention of violence
Israel should send a message by executing all terrorists in jail right now
^ a 9mm, 40, or 45 are much better options than a 22. All Jews should arm themselves to stop this bloodshed.
we could list all the calibers out there the bottom line is every jew whether he lives in israel europe or america they should have some sort of protection .
If Barkat wants us to carry guns, let him do something about the current laws that stop residents of cities (not the Gush etc) and who are not in security/law enforcement from having a weapon. I can shoot and I want to be able to protect my family, property and self.
this mayor is right on target
shoot these savages/cockroaches and don’t stop until they are gone pffffffffffff !!
Unfortunately many of the Heimishe Yidden in Yerushalim with no militiary experience don’t know one side of a gun from a broom handle.
Actually the .22 long is (or was) the deadliest round in America. A handgun is always choice between light weight (so you are likely to actually carry the thing) and lethality. Having spent much too much time carrying a .45, I always advise to go for the .22 with a laser aiming aid.
