New York, NY - Arrest Made In Midtown Bottle Throwing
New York, NY - A 53 year old Queens man has been arrested for throwing a Molotov cocktail at a group of people that included a pair of 20 year old yeshiva students.
Miles Thomas of Briarwood has been charged with three counts of Attempted Murder 2, nine counts of Attempted Felony Assault, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon and three counts of Reckless Endangerment. As previously reported on VIN News, the incident took place last Friday on 37th Street near 9th Avenue in Midtown, with Thomas reportedly shouting “I will kill you,” as he threw the bottle at the crowd.
While police said last week that the bottle contained nothing but alcohol and could therefore not be classified as a firebomb, they are now confirming that the bottle also contained a burning rag and that it erupted in flames as it hit the ground in front of 356 West 57th Street. No one was injured in the attack and the suspect, who had been described as a white male wearing a backpack, approximately 5’9” and weighing 215 pounds, fled southbound on 9th Avenue.
Police told VIN News that Thomas’ motives are not known at this time but that the incident is no longer being treated as a bias incident.
