Meron, Israel – A 30-year-old man from Yokneam suffered from light injuries after being stabbed and a family sprayed with tear gas after a man described by police as religious went on the rampage over mixed seating arrangements of men and women who arrived to celebrate a 3-year-old’s birthday at the grave site of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai in Meron, near Safed, this evening.

Safed police said that a suspect had been arrested after attempting to flee the area by bus. He was found in possession of a knife and with a tear gas canister attached to his belt.

“He came prepared,” police said, adding that detectives did not know yet why the man was armed.

Earlier, a bus carrying a family with small children arrived at the grave of the revered rabbi, where they proceeded to hold a religious ceremony and set up a temporary shelter.
The suspect complained to the family about the mixing of men and women, and began throwing rocks after the family members did not adhere to his demands. He then produced a knife and stabbed the 30-year-old man in the stomach. The family was also sprayed with tear gas, causing severe discomfort. The stab victim was lightly wounded, requiring medical treatment on the spot.

Safed police sealed off the village and arrested the suspect as he was attempting to board a bus. The stabbing victim identified his assailant.

“We do not know why this suspect arrived at the gravesite with a knife and tear gas. In addition to stabbing a victim, he also caused young children aged three distress,” a spokesman for Safed police said.

Police say the suspect had refused to identify himself, preventing officers from finding out whether he had a criminal past.

But for degree, can anyone tell me the difference a frummock stabbing a frum family the way this radical orthocop did, and an arab strapping a bomb to himself and blowing himself up in a pizzeria? Cause in reality this criminal fanatic and that criminal fanatic are the same, using the same terrorist tactics – except one prays three times a day and the other five. Other than that, there is no difference. Maybe they’ll bulldoze this idiots house to teach him a lesson. Let’s hope.

There are some complaining about how the rest of the world is out to get them, that they are anti semites. There are some who complain about the sexually abused children coming forward causing a “chillul Hashem.” – They are only setting themselves to look bad and be hated. This person is sickening and a lowlife, if he didn’t like the situation, then LEAVE. What will harming another do? I’ll tell you what it will do, it will make front page news “Jews attacking other fellow Jews” and it will make the more modern skeptical Jewish people run further away from Judaism.

I think its safe to presume that poster 8 means well, but the fact is he is plainly naive. It is dangerous to minimize what this zealot did by describing him as psychotic. That’s the easy way out.

This fanatic deserves no mercy. He perverts Torah just like those bearded fools who embrace Achmydinnersgross. During the Vietnam War, you heard chants of “Love it or leave it.” I say the same for Torah-true Judaism. We have enough problems with the abusers, the oy vey its lashon harahniks, and the dan lkaf zchus freaks as it is.

It’s interesting how the nutcase is decribed as a “religiuos person” where as in America the perp would be decribed as a lunitic, murderer, fanatic or many other words which can’t be written on this holy site!

What’s with these fanatical religious nuts? It seems from these kind of reports that this extreme & violent behavior is becoming more common. Where are these lunatics’ Rabbis ? And do they belong to any one group? Is there any commonality here?

Wow! Doesn’t this sound familiar? There is a whole religion like that which says that if someone disagrees with you, you may kill them. Therefore, I know that stabber follows the Koran.
That man is so religious! Oh golly, he must be a holy person he is permitted to stab people and throw rocks at them if they don’t agree with you.

Why is everyone assuming that there was a problem at all with the mixed gathering? The description of the group is that it was a _family_ coming to celebrate an Upsherin; having a _family_meal_ afterwards should be fine.

Tearing down his house won’t solve his problems. This person is obviously mentally impaired; he needs to be examined and treated.

Unfortunately criminals and murderers exist in every culture, religion, community … they are not mentally ill, they are criminals and should be treated as such ! Stop justifying CRIME under RELIGION or INSANITY … and quit hiding under the carpet… face reality or you will NEVER SEE justice and/or crime rate reducing!
