Williamsburg, Brooklyn’s Satmar community was sadness-stricken this evening upon the passing of leading philanthropist Mr. Chaim Lax after a long struggle with cancer. He was 59.

A mogul in the diamond industry CEO of Dynamic Diamond Corp, Lax was equally well-known in the Jewish community and beyond as a towering baal tzedakah who disbursed millions, in New York, and Israel especially for newlyweds, over the course of lifetime.
The Lax home kept an open door to numerous rabbis, fundraisers and others, all of whom were hosted and greeted warmly and with dignity.
Many Orthodox Jews around the world attest that Mr. Lax’s golden heart and genuine warmth won over everyone who came in contact with him. Most notably, Lax quietly provided critical business loans, to the tune of millions, to many of his fellow Jews over the years.
Mr. Lax leaves behind his second wife (his first passed away of cancer several years ago), and several children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held tonight at 11:00 PM in Williamsburg.

I among many many others can attest to this personal tremendous loss to us and to klal yisroel.. Reb Chaim, was a man who we knew we could turn to when in need. How many times, he helped us to cover medical expenses, household bills when we were in dire economic strife. Always with a smile ,and a brochah!
Reb Chaim.. you left behind a wonderful wife, gevaldige children, and a legacy to us all. We who have known you and had sheiches with you feel like we have been orphaned too…
Reb Chaim our tears flow endlessly we feel orphaned like many thousands of families and mosdos worldwide.
What else coudl we say – BORUCH DAYAN EMESS!!

He used to say after giving tzedukeh thank you for coming to me ,yeps this is a madraiga
His Chesed was gevaldig but his genuine Ahavas Yisroel, for every Yid regardless of affiliation or personal stature, was even more extraordinary. His petira is truly an “aveida sh’ein lo temiroso”
Yehei Zichroi Burich!

Mr. Lax was a Yid a tzadik, I had ones a very difficult time in my household financially I called Chaim, and he asked me how much you need that will calm you until you get back on your feet, I said 25,000, he said no problem come over, I met him he said whenever u feel financially stable you can give it back.. I gave it back to him 1 year later, he never asked me anything or pressured me.
He did Tzdokah with no fanfare, a real Baal Chesed, Oh Reb Chaim will miss you, I shed tears as I remember the gevaldiga favor you did for me and my family.
May you rest in peace

I never knew him personally, but i do know some of his children. Look at the children and see what a special person he must have been. May his precious family be comforted, and may Hashem Yisborach wipe away all of our tears, and bring Mashiach.
The heartbreaking levaya took place at the big satmar shul on Rodney St. and left to Monroe where the levaya continued.
may he be a mailitz yoisher for his broken family and friends.
Nebach on his poor almonah! she went through trauma while losing her first husband in a tragic accident at work when a pallet of apple juice fell on him.. she was only in the low 30’s then, and finally she married this choshuva man and such a tragedy again! oy vey, how much can a person bear??
May the almonah and the yesomim have a real nechomoh.
BDH. I had the opportunity to visit this baal chesed almost every year on a steady basis to pick up his donation for a mosad. he always had a few nice chidishim on the parsha, always a smile, he made me feel so comfortable. yehi zichroi burich!

Chaim Ben Jehoisef rest in peace.
A true Baal Chesed, Ohev Sholom Ve’Roidef Sholom. an unshakable Emunah in Hashem & Emunas Tzaddikim. He truly felt that he was on the receiving end every time that he gave. Always mevater, never held any grudges, never complained during his terrible illnes. He is a true loss for Klal Yisroel. We need his zechusim during these uncertain times, may he be a meilitz yoisher for all of us, and plead for hashem to hasten Moshiach. Yehi Zichro Boruch. We will all miss him.
