Emanuel, a knowledgeable source tells FOX News has accepted the position and will make an announcement soon.
The sharp-tongued, sharp-elbowed, keenly intelligent veteran of the Clinton White House is said to have ambitions to some day be Speaker of the House. But he also has a keen sense of "duty."
Today on "Good Morning America" ABC's George Stephanopoulos reported Obama likes the fact that Emanuel "knows policy, knows politics, knows Capitol Hill" and has told associates that Emanuel would "have his back."

Alas, don't waste your breath; the minds of these paranoid hate-mongering racists are closed to any reasoning. And to them Yidden who differ with them are mere self-hating Jews. They are ideological zealots withh reasoning abilities that are, nebuch, closer to how many of our enemies think than they are what is expected of a Torah Yid.

His father, a pediatrician still practicing near Chicago, immigrated to the United States from Israel and spoke Hebrew with his son, when Emanuel was a boy. He is the brother of Ari Emanuel, a prominent talent agent and founder of the Endeavor Agency.
Emanuel lost part of his right middle finger to a meat slicer while an employee at Arby's as a teenager.
Emanuel's wife Amy Rule, a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, was non-practicing before converting to Orthodox Judaism around the same time as her wedding.[22] They are "active members of a modern Orthodox congregation, Anshe Shalom, in Chicago".[8] Amy is “heavily involved with the Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.”[8] They have three children, son Zacharias and daughters Ilana and Leah. The children attend "the Conservative Jewish day school, which Emanuel himself attended as a child". Rabbi Asher Lopatin of Anshe Sholom B'nai Israel Congregation, is quoted as saying: "It's a very involved Jewish family"; "Amy was one of the teachers for a class for children during the High Holidays two years ago."[8] Emanuel has said of his Judaism: "I am proud of my heritage and treasure the values it has taught me."[8] Emanuel's family lives on the North Side of Chicago, in the North Center neighborhood.[23]
Emanuel trains for and participates in triathlons.[6]

Correct, somebody made me aware of it, that when the United States wants to pressure Israel they'll send a Jewish diplomat like Abe Sofer who cannot be accused of being anti-Israel. One good thing might come from this election is, that the world will see that Israel isn't the problem, but that the Arabs don't want peace. He'll force on Israel new treaties but in the end the Arabs won't honor their agreements and we'll be back to square one, which is better then square two.

Last week the hate-mongers on this site were claiming that Obama's offer to Emanuel was just a ploy to get the Jewish vote, and that as soon as he was elected he would retract the offer. Now, with egg on their faces, they have a new claim: He offered the job to a Jew so that he can blame Jews.
Sickening.

I'd like to make all commentaries aware that "more or less" Hashem still kind of has control over the events in the world. I seem to recall that Kissinger was also heralded as a threat to our security. Maybe Hashem is setting the stage for Moshiach by having an openly involved Jew in such a position. I'm sure that the people of Persia were upset when Nehemia became the Chief of Staff of King Darius. The result of that was the building of the Bayis Sheini. Who knows? Martin Luther King said "I have a dream" and it became fact yesterday. I pray that our dreams become factual very soon. L'shono haboh b'Yerushalayim Habnuyoh.

He could resign.
We already know who he is; we know what he said at Rashid Khalidi's party. We know he said "Israel has no God-given right to occupy Palestine" and that there's been "genocide against the Palestinian people by Israelis." And we know he has borrowed Khalidi's phrase, "running sore", to refer to the Israel-Arab situation. (Khalidi openly said ISRAEL was the "running sore"; Obama was more subtle, but the fact that he used Khalidi's phrase is chilling.) Knowing all that, there is nothing he can do to prove that he's not who he is.

Nov 05, 2008 at 12:34 PM Chief of Staff Says:
The White House Chief of Staff is the highest-ranking member of the Executive Office of the President of the United States and a senior aide to the President. The U.S. President's Chief of Staff is a very powerful position, sometimes dubbed "The Second-Most Powerful Man in Washington.
The duties of the White House Chief of Staff vary greatly from one administration to another. However, he/she is responsible for overseeing the actions of the White House staff, managing the President's schedule, and deciding who is allowed to meet with the President. Because of these duties, the Chief of Staff has at various times been dubbed "The Gatekeeper" and "The co-President".
Originally, the duties now performed by the Chief of Staff belonged to the Secretary to the President.[1] In 1946, in response to the rapid growth of the U.S. government's executive branch, the position of Assistant to the President of the United States was established, and charged with the affairs of the White House. In 1961, the president's pre-eminent assistant was designated White House Chief of Staff. "Assistant to the President" became a rank generally shared by the Chief of Staff with such senior aides as Deputy Chiefs of Staff, the White House Counsel, the White House Press Secretary, and others. Prior to the creation of this post, the Chief of Staff's job title was traditionally Appointments Secretary, as with Franklin Delano Roosevelt's aide Edwin "Pa" Watson.
Not every President has had a formal Chief of Staff (e.g., John F. Kennedy did not). Due to the stressful and demanding nature of the job, the average term-of-service for a White House Chief of Staff is a little under two and a half years. John R. Steelman, under Harry S. Truman, was the last Chief of Staff to serve for an entire presidential administration. Steelman also holds the record for longest-serving Chief of Staff (6 years). Andrew Card and Sherman Adams tie for second-longest (5 years each).
Most White House Chiefs of Staff are former politicians, and many continue their political careers in other senior roles. Richard Nixon's Chief of Staff Alexander Haig became Secretary of State under Ronald Reagan. Gerald Ford's Chief of Staff Dick Cheney became a U.S. Representative for Wyoming, Secretary of Defense under George H.W. Bush and Vice President of the United States of America under George W. Bush. Donald Rumsfeld was another Chief of Staff for the Ford administration and subsequently served as Secretary of Defense in the Ford administration and decades later in the George W. Bush administration.
Some have suggested that a powerful Chief of Staff with a "hands-off" president (who decides not to become involved in the minutiæ of government), can become a de facto prime minister. Such prime ministers exist in some governmental systems, such as France's and Russia's: The prime minister runs the government (operations-wise), while the president remains somewhat aloof from the political process, but personally handling policy matters. Under Ronald Reagan, Donald Regan was seen by many as a prime minister-style Chief of Staff following James Baker. Howard Baker, who succeeded Regan, was critical of this system and what is sometimes known as the "Imperial Presidency."
By contrast, Andrew Card, President George W. Bush's first Chief of Staff, was not regarded as being as powerful. Some have speculated that this was due to Card being "overshadowed" by the influence of "the architect" of the President's meteoric political rise—Senior Adviser and Deputy Chief of Staff (the official titles given to him by Bush) Karl Rove.[2] Similarly, President Bill Clinton's Chiefs of Staff were not particularly powerful.

I don't believe it is "more or less" control. I believe it is total.

"Emanuel lost the finger to a meat slicer as a teenager and never served in the Israeli army. But it's a measure of his considerable reputation as the enforcer in Clinton's White House that so many people believe it to be true. You don't earn the nickname "Rahmbo" being timid."

As for the Abe Sofer Part I agree 100%. As for the hope that "the world will see that Israel isn't the problem..." MA Nishtana!? why would this time be any different than all the other times??

I see a silver lining in all this. Maybe it's better to have a pro-Arab president who says what he thinks, then a so called pro-Jewish president like Clinton who pressured Israel all the way from the handshake on the White House lawn until the failed treaty in Taba. Arafat threw a last minute tantrum and threatened not to appear on the White House lawn. All dignitaries were waiting and the whole world was watching. Clinton took Rabin into a room and forced out of him a major un-authorized concession for which Rabin paid with his life. Again I would rather have an upfront president then a devious one.

Israel at that time found a way of getting rid of him. They threw him out of the country for buying ancient artifacts (Sofer is a collector of antiques). So the trick worked both ways. Had he not been a Jew, Israel wouldn't dare throw him out.

Contrary to popular belief we all dont have to jump for joy with these appointments just because someone's mother was jewish.
