Kiryas Joel, NY - Orange County has levied almost $17,800 in fines and charges against Kiryas Joel over an unauthorized sidewalk that caused Route 44 to be closed for nearly three weeks.

The county shut the road Oct. 15 after deciding the walkway construction had put drivers and pedestrians at risk by loosening 500 feet of guardrail beside Route 44.

The thoroughfare reopened Tuesday after a contractor hired by Kiryas Joel removed the guardrail and replaced it with concrete barriers to separate the wooden boardwalk from the road.

So KJ got what they wanted. They applied for a permit, it was denied. They did it anyway, paid 17k in fines, and have a walkway. Good for them!! And when people ask why you don't follow the rules, now you know why.

Yup, that's how to get things done. All you people who blasted Kiryas Yoel should apologise. They knew exactly how to get the results they needed out of an anti-semetic government who couldn't give a hoot about any life, much less a Jewish one.

Congradulations to Kiryas Yoel.
