New York – Jonathan Pollard Loses His Job Due To Parole Conditions

Convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard (C), who was released from a U.S. federal prison in North Carolina overnight, leaves U.S. District court in the Manhattan borough of New York November 20, 2015. REUTERSNew York – An employer who had intended to give a salaried position to Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard retracted the offer Monday, because the conditions of his parole would have prevented him from doing his job.

Pollard received an offer to become a research analyst in the finance department of a respected investment firm. But his parole conditions require him to wear an electronic ankle bracelet at all times for GPS tracking of his whereabouts and to be subjected to unfettered monitoring and inspection of his computers and those of his employer.

He cannot leave his home in New York City before 7 a.m. or come home after 7 p.m., which makes it difficult to travel to and from work, to attend prayer services, or to accept invitations to dinner on the Sabbath and holidays from friends and relatives.

Speaking at the Louis Brandeis award dinner of the ZOA in New York on Sunday night, Pollard’s attorney, Eliot Lauer, said that due to the conditions, his client is “still not free,” despite leaving prison on Friday after serving 30 years of a life sentence. He asked the Jewish community to continue to struggle for Pollard’s freedom.

“The parole commission’s unnecessary conditions make it virtually impossible for him to obtain a normal job in New York City,” Lauer said. “The employer who offered him work took back the offer because federal authorities asked to install monitoring devices in the company’s computer system if it employed him.”

Pollard must also answer every phone call or knock on his door in the middle of the night, because it could be a test by a parole officer that if failed could lead to him being sent back to prison.

The Free Pollard campaign continued to ask Knesset members on Monday to refrain from criticizing the conditions of his parole and to leave the battle to his attorneys who are trying to obtain a date for a hearing before a district court judge in New York as soon as possible. At least a dozen MKs, including Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked (Bayit Yehudi), rejected that request and released statements Friday criticizing the conditions.

“Everyone must display responsibility and restraint in hopes that it will lead to improving the situation on the legal track,” a campaign spokesman said.

He is always free to reject the conditions of the parole and to return to prison.

Many Jews who are in prison received stiff sentences that many will say becuase they are Jewish.

Would be nice to see for people to be aware and pray for many many Jews who are in prison for a very long time. Even if someone hasn’t spied for Israel who is in prison for other things should worry the same people who made noise about Pollard. A Jew is a Jew,right? or only if one spies for Israel doesn’t deserve prison and some frum yid belongs in prison.Which one is it?

Pollard should dissociate himself from the big-mouthed Israelis, after he has already paid dearly at the onset of his ordeal 30 years ago, for his arrogance, being convinced that Israel would extract him from the pit, Rather than confronting the judicial system, let him work humbly with them towards abatement of his conditions,

Keep in mind he admitted offering his services to other countries such as S Africa and Pakistan. Further more he did this for money, he betrayed the country that took us in and sold our secrets even if it didn’t pertain to the Middle East.

Not sure why we are treating him as a hero, his defense team did a great job of changing his traitor status to a hero.

It is a true embarrassment and a busha seeing what stupid people have the chutzpa to post here. The Neturai Karta Nazis that post such nonsense should pick up and move to Gaza. 1 & 2 you both live up to your #S. All that is missing for you is a giant FLUSH down the toilet.

So yet again the Israeli shows how arrogant he is. The Free Pollard campaign asked Israeli parliamentarians to refrain from criticizing the conditions of his parole. At least a dozen of them including the Justice Minister rejected that request and released statements Friday criticizing the conditions. These are the sort of people who try and rent Avis cars and leave their hotel rooms stuffed with all sorts of items that mysteriously find their way into their luggage.

Any person who works for the defense department takes an oath of secrecy. Anyone who violates that oath is a traitor, especially if: he discloses military secrets to other governments and does it for money and then gives media interviews after he makes a deal and promises not to speak publicly. What exactly is his redeeming value: that he sold the secrets to Israel (the only country that was willing to pay)? That he was born Jewish? That he now wears a Yarmulka ?
