De Blasio grew emotional Monday while framing the announcement with his own family’s struggles with depression.
His father was an alcoholic and committed suicide when de Blasio was 18.
And the mayor’s 20-year-old daughter, Chiara, has spoken openly about her battles with substance abuse and depression.
The new plan, dubbed ThriveNYC, is an $850 million investment over the next four years.
It will include mental health first aid training, a public awareness campaign meant to destigmatize mental illness and the city will convene a mayor’s conference for mental health in 2016.
Officials said the city loses an estimated $14 billion annually in productivity due to substance abuse and undiagnosed mental illness.
Takes one to know how to treat one.
Will he also be a client?? We all know he could use some serious help.
Great Idea,
Now he could treat himself
It takes one to know one!
DeBlasio is doing something substantial to help the homeless and mentally ill. He should get a lot of credit for that. Previous administrations did very little to help these most vulnerable and needy people.
In the words of Michael savage “liberalism is a mental disorder”….
Let him start by treating himself
He says substance abuse is a huge productivity problem, but he wants to legalize it.
I guess that explains the lack of work he actually does.
He is like the arsonist who is also the sick fire fighter who now fights the blaze he started. His so called Progrssive Liberalism needs to be treated as the mental disease it is. The only thing I’ve seen him succeed at is divide the city and fail terribly. I see him as a star graduate of the Obama course on socialism.
must have been a client.
Will he also be a client?? We all know he could use some serious help.
