Jerusalem - Israeli Troops Running Secret Nightly Missions To Save Lives Of Syrian Soldiers
Jerusalem - Through unprecedented access shot while embedded with Israeli commandos along the Syrian border, DAILYMAIL.co.uk (http://dailym.ai/1SO5TtY) has released video footage of secretive nightly missions being run by Israeli troops as they venture into enemy territory to rescue badly wounded Islamic fighters.
The clip shows Israeli troops amassing some 2 miles from the Syrian border and as the highly organized effort begins, the team’s top priority is scanning the area for any signs of potential ambush.
The goal of this particular mission is to rescue and transport back to Israel hospitals four badly wounded Syrian fighters, while simultaneously returning 4 Syrian fighters who have recovered sufficiently enough from their wounds to return to their homeland.
Israeli officials have been tight-lipped about the nightly runs, other than to say that the purpose of the missions are strictly humanitarian.
However, analysts say that the lives the Israelis are saving—-approximately 2,000 over the course of the three years the missions have been operating—-are predominantly those of Sunni rebels, and that Israel is operating on the premise that “my enemy’s enemy is my friend.”
Asked about the danger involved in these missions, Lieutenant Colonel Itzik Malka of Golan Brigade called stepping into Syria the most dangerous job facing Israeli soldiers currently.
“Today I think that the most dangerous mission that an Israeli slider has is to approach the fence, open the gate, and venture in with Syrian civilians because it’s the only time we open the gate,” Malka said.
