Brooklyn, NY - One week after a 62 year old Brooklyn Jewish woman died after being hit by an MTA bus, the NYPD has arrested the driver of the bus and charged him with failure to yield to a pedestrian.

52 year old Wayne Alman was arrested as a result of an investigation by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad.  A police spokesperson declined to identify Alman’s place of residence, telling VIN News that no further identifying details are released about New York City employees.

As previously reported on VIN News, Eleonora Shulkina was crossing East 17th Street last Monday night when she was hit by an eastbound MTA B36 bus just before 6 PM.  Shulkina, who suffered trauma to the head, was pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital a short time later.

Alman remained on scene following the fatal crash.

Shulkina’s death marks the third fatality involving an MTA bus and a pedestrian in Brooklyn.  A 70 year old woman using a walker died in a hit and run accident on November 3rd in Ocean Hill and a 41 year old woman lost her life as she tried to cross Ocean Avenue near Avenue J outside the crosswalk on November 25th.

If it was an accident and stayed at the scene why was he arrested? Part of vision zero should be that after dusk it should be mandatory to wear a reflective belt.

Sometimes people make the strangest typographical errors. Did you mean to write, "Nebach...the pedestrian is a dead woman"

Are you an idiot? Of course Nebach she died. But its tremendously sad that this driver who caused this accident cannot live with himself because of this. I personally know that he is suffering greatly.

You have a point. The person he killed isn't suffering at all at this point. I don't know what your point is, but you do have a point. It certainly is 100% factually true that the victim is no longer suffering. Maybe the victim has loved ones who are suffering, but just comparing the driver to the walker in the way you described, you are 100% right. What point were you trying to make, anyway? In the larger picture?

when you become king, you can make new, ridiculous rule like the one you suggest. Until then, sit down and shut up.

as sad as it is that a pedestrian was killed, nowhere does it say that the the bus drivers ignored a red light. rather, in this case, it says he was charged with "failure to yield to a pedestrian", which translates to the bus driver having had a green light.

It is really a shame that people who cross against the light or jaywalk and are the real reason they get killed end up screwing drivers who did nothing wrong except help them commit suicide.

And with people walking with their faces buried in their cellphones, this will happen more and more.
