Jerusalem - The Rabbinical Committee for Communication Affairs has issued a call demanding that inspectors from the ultra-Orthodox organization Eda Haredit begin monitoring authorized cell phone dealers in Haredi neighborhoods to make sure that only “strictly kosher” cell phones are being sold.

YNETNEWS.com (http://bit.ly/1QRmQGJ) reports that the call came down following a series of recent events in which Haredi-sector phone dealers have been caught issuing devices that allow Haredi users access to banned features, namely the Internet and cameras.

One such incident resulted in a protest during which the Rebbe of Strykow and a group of followers staged a protest outside a scofflaw cell phone dealer’s store.

Recent street ads have been appeared in Haredi neighborhoods as well, charging that some local cell phone dealers are specifically targeting yeshiva students with the prospect of obtaining phones capable of skirting the rabbinical ban.

Lets not forget that It was "internet and Cameras" that brought down Anthony Weiner. You obviously are not aware of all the families that have been destroyed by such technology, and should not assume you know better than the Rabbanim that have to deal with the consequences.

Please - the head of edah hareidit is nothing but a treasonous rabble rouser who should be arrested and tossed into jail. He'd never get away with his crap in any other country.

Sadly, its never phones, cameras or the internet that have destroyed anyone. These are inert devices. Its the people who can not control themselves who cause the trouble and bring destruction on themselves. Yes, these devices make it easier to fall prey & spread danger, but banning anything will never solve the problem, just drive it further hidden from the public eye. Putting an "inspector" will do nothing. Those that want a internet device will just travel a few blocks away and get a second phone - and be further influenced by the 'bad' neighborhood there too.

Yup and 9/11 happened because of tall building and airplanes. Should we assur air planes?
Yup cars and phones brought lots of people down in the past. In fact there is a teshuva written at the time the trains were invented by a leading posuk. (It slipped my mind who it was. Perhaps the noda byehuda) In the teshuva he assurs traveling on the new invention called the "ban" (yiddish for train). he said peoplw iwll travel to big cities and become secular.
Notice I have not poked fun on the internet as I think thats a slightly different animal. Internet is something you can access anything and everything in one second in the privacy of ones home. That is very dangerous. But I think its a huge stretch to blame Weiner on cameras?? Because I take a selfie I will go off the Derech?
Not to long ago I remember when rabbonim said thousands of girls are being mechallal shabbos via texting. Therefore its assur to text? Really these were fine ehrlicha girls and 1000's went off the derceh because of texting? So now that the texting mishagas is past us, I am waiting for the whats app frenzia.
