Jerusalem – Barkat To Pay Back ‘Ger’ For Their Support

    78

Jerusalem – Newly elected Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat is considering thanking the city’s ultra-Orthodox Ger community for their support in the elections by handing their representatives the municipality’s planning and construction portfolio. Barkat met with MK Yakov Litzman (United Torah Judaism), who represents the Ger community, at his house yesterday for a lengthy meeting. “We don’t give details on meetings that were either held or not held with public officials,” a Barkat spokesman said. The Ger Hasidic dynasty voted en masse in favor of the secular Barkat, causing a split with the rest of the ultra-Orthodox community who largely supported the candidacy of Meir Porush.

As people say colloquially that’s ‘like giving a monkey the key to the banana plantation’. Mr Barkat might regret it.

stop bashing the ger chasidim, people can choose to do what they feel is right. why do we feel we need to do something only one way, like a box. there are options and people do what they feel is correct. if one sect feels that a canidate is better then the other, why do we need to bash them, so be it.

The representative of Ger will be a litvak from Degel Hatorah who joined Litzman to back stab Porush. But one day Mr. P. will receive his reward as the Mishna says Hillel found a skull floating upon the water and he said You were drowned because you drowned others but he who drowned you will be drowned in the end. Porush buried P. in Beitar, P. buried Porush in Yerushalayim, and one day ………………….
    P. is still young and has aspirations of becoming an MK when Ravitz retires, lets see if he does teshuva before that day. For all the support he had from Boyan, he could show his gratitude by arranging for them to acquire the Kaduri property which is next to their Shul and Yeshiva. If he does not do this he is no better than Porush and Polak!

#1 wellsaid, but what does it have to do with Ger?
it apperars that he made the right decision, since now he is getting something, can you say the same for ger under Porush?
on the flip side of the coin, why did the oter endorse Porush?
because the would get nothing from him? or is it for the sae reasons that Ger didn’t vote for him.
as far as I am concerned, Porush is just as frum as Barkat, since that (his being frum) is clearly not the reason the others endorsed him, but what he promised them is.
which makes Ger the winner and shows they just made the right choice.
if the others would have joined Ger, would they (the others) have benefited? clearly yes, would Ger have benefited from Porush? clearly no.
So #1 exactly what did Ger do wrong?

Don’t worry so much about this, the Jewish community has survived over the years despite lots of in-fighting. When the secular community sees that we don’t march in lock step as one massive cult they see that we are believers in hashem and not a mindless cult. Thank you Gerer CEO & Rebbe!

Interesting! I wonder, if after Ger gets the government to build inexpensive housing for sale or rentals for the Chareidim because of getting this portfolio, whether all those “imfarginers” that are “hocking” now on Ger will refuse those houses / apartments? Or perhaps they will be out for themselves, as all the other “politicians” are now!
Same thing is true now for all those that are waiting to get their checks of 500 NIS monthly from Yad L’Mishpacha – a Gerrer Rebbe initiative for ALL frume Yidden. Or will they also forgo that allotment, out of their bitterness at Ger. Knowing those Israelis, I highly doubt it.

It really makes no differnce which politician will run city hall with its money, power, and nepotism. What is unforgivable, though, is Gerrer chassidim urging chilonim
to vote against chareidim, using slogans from anti-religious parties. This was done in Yerushalayim (successfully) and in Beit Shemesh (unsuccessfully)/

I do not believe that some people cannot understand the Aveiro and Chillul Hashem to vote for a Poshei Yisroel rather than for an Erlicher Yid.
Since when has Money, Nekoma and Control replaced our Torah.
Not even a modern Orthodox Rabbi with a kippah seruga would allow himself to stoop that low and campaign by the chillonim that Porush will make Yerushalayim too frum.

Ger have sold out their neshomas for money, and in the process Tzion has fallen.

But isn’t it far, far worse that they took enormous sums of monies (corruptly) for themselves at the expense of giving children a Torahidige chinuch. How many frayer have they caused who will be future voters for Barkat.

Its Only Fitting That Ger Endorsed The Secular Candidate, The Way Their Women Dress Is A Straight Out Chillul Hashem, As One Told Me At A Visit To Israel Recently Their Men Look Like From Old Shtetl And Their Wives Like Shikses From Paris. They Intentionaly Drown Out Yiddish To Modernize Their Youth. And Stop With The Gedolim Shtick, Unless You Call All Filthy Rich People This Way. BTW Im Glad That The Secular Guy Won Its A Position That Needs To Support All Kinds Of Life Styles, Even Against The Torah. So I Will Cut The GEDOLIM Some Slack.

    I have a great solution
The Rebbe hates Reb Shaul, so dismiss Reb Shaul and make Nir Barkat the new Rosh Yeshiva and then Meir Porush could become Rosh Hair!

    The Rebbe will be happy,
    Porush will be happy
    Yerushalayim will be happy.

The great strength of the Chareidi world has been that it has followed Daas Torah when it came to political choices. One Jerusalem politician decided to challenge the frum world and become a political power on his own, changing his Chassidic affiliations chameleon-like depending on where he thought it would best further his political aspirations, no different than any secular politician. He went head to head with the Godol HaDor, Rav Elyashiv, in last year’s Betar mayoral elections, and his hand-picked puppet defeated R. Yitzchak Pindrus, who had fashioned Betar, a vibrant enclave of Torah and Chassidus, into arguably the cleanest, best-run, corruption-free city in Israel. He was thus emboldened to try to do the same in Jerusalem. Had he succeeded in his striving for power in Jerusalem he would have threatened the supremacy of our following Daas Torah in matters of political choices, and the Torah world would have turned in the direction of kol d’olim govar, similar to the situation in the secular political world. Boruch HaShem, and with the help of Ger, his power play in Jerusalem failed and he received a well-deserved patch-in-ponim from the frum world.

I feel sorry for the Gerrer Rebbe. He acknowledges he made a mistake, as he has called together an international summit.
He is only human and unfortunately let his anger to Porush blind his vision. There was money, power and Nekoma. Litzman was the one who pushed the Rebbe into this mess. Didn’t Moishe Rebbayni also make mistakes!
