David Wax, 53, who previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Freda L. Wolfson to an information charging him with conspiracy to commit kidnapping, was sentenced to 84 months in prison. Judy Wax, 51, who previously pleaded guilty before Judge Wolfson to an information charging her with misprision of a felony, was sentenced to two years of probation.

Judge Wolfson imposed both sentences today in Trenton federal court.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:

David Wax admitted that in October 2010, he and his conspirators agreed to force a Jewish man to give his wife a get, a document which, according to Jewish law, must be presented by a husband to his wife to effect their divorce.

David Wax lured the victim from Brooklyn, New York, to Wax’s home in Lakewood on Oct. 17, 2010, under the pretense that the victim would work on Talmudic books that David Wax was publishing. When the victim arrived, he was brought upstairs, blindfolded, handcuffed and bound. The victim was then assaulted by Wax and his conspirators until he provided the get.
Judy Wax admitted that she and her husband later replaced a blood-soaked carpet in their home in order to conceal the kidnapping. She also admitted to knowingly failing to notify the
    authorities of the kidnapping.

The family of the victim’s wife paid David Wax approximately $100,000 to obtain the forced get. His conspirators received approximately $50,000.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Wolfson sentenced David Wax to two years of supervised release.

Now he should be forced to give a ‘get’ to his wife, She shouldn’t be allowed to stay an’ Aguna’ for 7 years, “Lo Tirtzach” and “Lo Tinhaf” are next to each other for a reason,

Not long enough. They could have caused the victim to have a heart attack and die. What barbarians and they made a ton of money for years and years doing this….. ALL CASH.

Husbands take heed not to withhold giving your wife a get. They hold their wives hostage for money or custody. She can’t marry and in some cases he gets a heyer from 100 rabbi’s and goes on with his (low) life.

before you comment, read sefer Chofetz Chaim.
you are not permitted to comment from what you hear from the press.

Was at court preceding. The judge threw the book at him and explained her reasoning. She accused him of pretending to be a cooperative witness (moser) but then deliberately sabotaging the investigation. by blatantly lying to the court in a way to help the defense. You will see in the transcripts that she said in all of her 30 years on the bench she never saw a witness for the prosecution deviously turn against the government and as a result they were not able to obtain a conviction for Ari Epstein and others. Crazy story!

can you define mesira? If he had been a real moiser, he would have gotten 2 years, not 7. He stymied the prosecution, READ #11 , and took a hit of 5 years of his life. whatever he did was done with daas torah, a shaila, psak and heter to do exactly what he did. problem is that he cared too much… he could have worried about himself, but he didn’t. Again, read #11 .

TO # 12- wow i never knew how foolish people can be why not use the brains g-d gave us. I ask all of you IF WAX REALLY WAS A MOSER WHY THE HELL WOULD HE GET MORE THEN EVERYONE ELSE MAYBE LISTEN TO WHAT JUDGE WOLFSON SAID – THE REASON SHE GAVE HIM SO MUCH IS BECAUSE HE SABOTAGED THE GOVERNMENTS INVESTIGATION. she was fuming at him for getting ari epstien off the hook maybe this so called ”moser” really did help them and even thought HE GOT A PSAK FROM A CHASHUVE RAV TO TESTIFY he did all he could to save them. this is all common sense and i know it to be true because I WAS AT THE COURT HOUSE FUMING AT DAVID WAX BUT I TURNED OUT TO BE A FOOL JUST LIKE YOU BUT AT LEAST I ADMIT I WAS WRONG. and talking about mechila if anyone needs mechila its you for saying false things about the wax’s. and speaking of halacha the halacha is a person has to hear both sides DID YOU HEAR THAT?? BOTH SIDES, BEFORE PASKENING OR DECIDING seeing and believing things from the press is completely against halacha! my advice to you and everyone else is to not judge unless you know and there is no way to know unless you speak to both sides.

He’s an idiot .for 100000$ he could have lured him into a remote location and gotten others to do the dirty work without being identified. He left his fingerprints all over.

Why ‘’name call’’ when you can just speak to the issues?
The fact is that ALL of the people involved are good people. I know for a fact, because I witnessed it, that Rabbi Mendel Epstein helped numerous women pro bono. He did NOT take money from people who needed his help and could not afford it. It is likely that this agent in the sting, made some hand motions (that were never recorded on audio) telling him that money was no object; they could go up to whatever was needed. She was TRYING to entrap him obviously and so she offered him the money.
The Goldstein family is a terrific pillar in the community. Rabbi Goldstein’s sentence is a travesty of justice. He was a sofer… never involved in any violence. To know him for 5 minutes is to understand that he is a gentle peace loving person. Anything his sons were involved with was l’shem mitzvah. The few dollars they received is laughable.

Dovid Wax was caught between a rock and a hard place in a way that no one else was. He had to save his wife. For himself he did not care, as EVIDENCED by the fact that PRECISELY because the judge perceived and understood that he did not really cooperate, she threw the book at him. He is happy today, that his wife will be home with their family where she belongs. She is a sweet and peaceful woman who had no part in any of this.
Can anyone define mesira? Dovid Wax asked a shaila, got a psak and a HETER from a very big posek before doing anything. He also proved to be the poorest witness for the prosecution that the judge ever encountered in her 30 years on the bench. She said that clearly he was rooting for the defense. Do you think this was an accident? The man is no fool but he came across that way. Use your heads. Does everything need to be spelled out for you?

Actually, I know very well a few of the women he helped. To say he did it without charging is a falacy. These women were very poor and worked menial jobs, yet they still had to pay him between 60-100k to obtain their gets. They borrowed the money from friends and family and are still paying back years later. I feel so bad for them.
