Washington - Attorney General Michael Mukasey collapsed tonight while giving a speech to the Federalist Society in Washington,  according to three senior administration officials.

The 67-year-old Mukasey was rushed to George Washington University Hospital, where his condition was not immediately known.

The film clip of Mr. Mukasey at the podium shows him wearing his glasses and in full formal business dress, talking away and suddenly slowing down, pausing, his head begins to lower toward his chest and it appears as the tape went to black that the poor soul fell to the floor.

Audience members said they began praying, fearing a stroke.

Rumors that he died are NOT true. He was unconscious for a while but has since regained consciousness.

Why is there no Hatzolah in DC? He was laying on the stage for at least 10 minutes until an Ambulance arrived. And that's with a rush on the call!!

CNN reports EMS on scene within 15 minutes. That's horrible response time for a small area like DC and pretty shocking for response to collapse of one of the highest governmental posts in the country.

This is in fact a major issue; rapid EMS response combined with good emergency care saves lifes -- but is expensive. (We should remember that when we complain about high taxes.) Here is a USA Today article from a few years ago that shows that many cities really don't even know how well they are doing:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/ems-day2-cover.htm

And of course response time by the first responder is only one measure; if the first responder doesn't have the needed lifesaving equipment, or if the emergency department of the hospital is so overwhelmed that they can't take care of the new patient, or if the responders get in each others' way rather than working together (unfortunately, I have personally seen that happen, chas v'shalom), rapid response doesn't help.

Is obserbavtion painful? I've never known anyone kept for that.
