Brooklyn, NY – More than 3,000 Chabad shluchos from around the world gathered last night at the Bedford-Union Armory in Crown Heights for a gala banquet, the highlight of the annual Kinus Hashluchos which gives female emissaries worldwide an opportunity to bond with their peers and to fortify themselves with spiritual inspiration and camaraderie to sustain them throughout the year.

The yearly event, which featured women from over 85 countries, was also attended by several hundred additional supporters and guests who came to pay homage to the shluchos, many of whom live in far-flung countries in their quest to spread yiddishkeit throughout the world.
Sara Tova Yaffe of Bondi, Australia traveled to New York with her husband and two children, telling Chabad.org that the kinus provides “a sense of sisterhood, connection to something much greater and a sense of purpose.”
That sentiment was echoed by Miriam Porush of Chabad Istanbul who said that she flew in from Turkey “to see people like me.”
The event also marked the 28th yahrtzeit of the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s wife, Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson and focused on a theme of Hakhel, marking the post-shemita year when the Lubavticher Rebbe would encourage his followers to gather en masse and inspire each other in their Torah learning and performance of mitzvos.
The four day event began on Thursday with a variety of workshops and featured festive meals, informative sessions and a resource fair held at several venues including the armory, the Jewish Children’s Museum and Yeshiva Oholei Torah. The kinus culminated this morning with a visit to the Rebbe’s Ohel followed by brunch and a general session.
Devorah Elkan, co-director of Chabad at Ohio’s Oberlin College noted that she would love to bring some of her students with her to the kinus in an effort to help them realize their potential.
“I think it would be an empowering experience for some of these students to see what Jewish women are capable of doing,” said Mrs. Elkan.
good for the Chabad ladies to also have a kinus. They probably work harder than their husbands and deserve some recognition.
As one Godol once said, where ever you travel in the world there is two things you can rely on, Coca-Cola and Chabad.
