New York - Kadosh Rabbi Aryeh Leibush Teitelbaum, h.y.d.

New York -  After two days of streams of prayers and high hopes throughout the world, the bitter news hit just before the onset of Shabbos in Israel, shocking and melting every heart, that the entire group held in the Mumbai Chabad center were all murdered al kidush Hashem.

Among the group were Rabbi Aryeh Leibush Teitelbaum, may G-d avenge his blood, 38.

Rabbi Teitelbaum’s father is the Volover Rov and Av Beis Din, Rabbi Nachum Ephraim Teitelbaum, who heads a respectable U.S. kashrus organization.  In the course of working for his father’s kashrus organization, Rabbi Aryeh Leibush Teitelbaum had been visiting India.

Rabbi Leibush was the sixth son-in-law of the Toldos Avrohom Yitzchok Rebbe.  He leaves a wife and eight yesomim behind, the oldest having just turned Bar Mitzvah this past Nissan and the youngest a few months old.

He was known as a gentle soul and a pious young man, bright-faced and beloved by all who met him.

His tragic death hit the Toldos Avrohom Yitzchok community hard, both in Israel and the world.

On the heels of the grave calamity, the Shabbos event planned in Borough Park with Rabbi Teitelbaum’s father-in-law, the Toldos Avrohom Yitzchok Rebbe, was cancelled; the Rebbe spent shabbos in Monsey sequestered at his host’s residence.

In phone conversations with VIN News, friends who knew Rabbi Teitelbaum recalled a very personable, “geshmakeh” individual and an outstanding student.  They are “devastated.”

The New York Times has continued to suggest the attack on Chabad House was "accidental." This, despite the myriad of evidence, including the testimony of one of the terrorists himself, that the attack was premeditated. The NY Times influences the thoughts of millions of readers who believe their stories are accurate. Thus, how it portrays the story is quite important to those outside of our circles.

The NY Times also called the Chabad rabbi a "manager" of a "Jewish center."
They referred to the frum people there as "ultra-orthodox." They seem to want to do everything possible to downplay the possibility that these Islamic terrorists are anti-Jewish and anti-Western. They desperately wish to delude themselves and their readers--including the liberal leftists who make up so much of their readership, and those who advise Obama--that there is a way to negotiate with radical Islam, that these vile murderers need to be understood and listened to.

Self-hatred by the ultra-secular Jews of the NY Times is dangerous and harmful.

What a stupid thing to say!

He was in india for business and went to shull to daven and learn.

He was killed al kiddush hashem just because he was a jew in a shull.

Btw, he was probably anti zionist and didn't vote in the israeli elections.

We are all targets!!! Where ever we are.

The shluliach & has wife that were slaughtered, were in India for selfless reasons ,they died only helping others & klal yisroel should recognize the work of the lubavitch shlucaim all over the world & not only when they need them for personal reasons.I was very familiar with Rabbi Tietelbaum as well ,davening at his grandfatheres shul in Far Rockaway ,I always drove him as a young boy back to Boro Park after he spent shabbos at his grandfather the Sulitzer Rebbe.

I never had the zchus to get to know Aryeh Leibish, Z"L, but I used to sit next to his father in Rav Kopelman's Yeshiva. He was a talmid chuchum and a nice person then, and I have heard that he is by far the best Rav HaMachshir to work for (I am in kashrus also)
Knowing the father, I KNOW the son was special, without having met him, though I wish I had.
That entire family is absolutely wonderful. I remember is grandfather the Nirbartur Rov, also a special person, and talmid chuchum.

For those of you who don't know the family, his grandfather Z"L was the Nirbartur Rov. The Nirmartur was a great hashgacha, and his two children took over. One is Aaron who is the current Nirbartur Rov, and Arhey Leibish's father, Nuchum Efroyim, the Vlover Rov.
You don't get nicer people. The family is really something special.
I am sitting here and crying for them.
I know one thing, both the Nirbartur and the Vlover, are the ONLY two hashguchois I would trust today without blinking. ALL others, I have to check up on and ask around before I am willing to trust. These two do all they are physically able to, to bring us the most reliably kosher food in the world.

His father, the Vlover Rov, could easily have used a contract mashgiach, or signed off on someone else's word. But he dooes not do those things. He sends his son, a big talmid chuchum and expert in his own right, or other people equally qualified.

This is not only a family of great charity and tzedaka, but a family of the highest integrity, and the warmest kindness and respect for all Jews.

I regret that I can only talk about his family, and wish I had gotten to know Aryeh Leibish myself.
But, when you look at his photos, you can see the warmth in his smile and from his eyes.

This planet is poorer for losing this heilige neshuma. May be be a meilitz yosher for all of us, and may this tragedy bring Yidden of all types closer together, and see Yidden showing each other the love he showed for every Jew.

In one of the articles I read that the last Shabbos he was at the Toldos Avrum Rebbe's tisch, and the Rebbe did machabed him to sing a song. So he started the famous Chabad Niggun " Ach Lilokim Domy Nafshee, ki meemany tikvasy.
When I think about this I cannot stop crying. I'm sure he wasn't just signing but he was also thinking about Peresh Hamilos.
Ironically he passed away in a Chabad house al kiddish Hashem.

Ach Lilokim Domy Nafshee, ki meemany tikvasy....

I knew him, and last saw him recently in Eretz Yisroel. I knew that he traveleld for hasgochos.

He was indeed a very erlicher yungerman. I know a few young men who used to eat in his house regularly on shabbos, when they were bochurim.

He alaways had a warm smile on his face, had an open home, and felt a ta'am (feeiling/taste) in Shaboss.

His father in law the Toldos Avrohom Yitzchok Rebbe tries to umbue all that come in contact with him, with a feeling for Shabbos Koidesh. All brochos stem from Shabbos.

I am sure a fund will be started for his family. Whilst i dont have details, i am sure one could find the address of the Friends Of toldos Avrhom Yitzchok, in the US, and send it there, noting what the donation is intended for.

Who was Harav Ayreh Leibish Teitelbaum? He came from the highest, most choshuv Rebbishe bloodlines, and married into another one. He was a true Rebbishe kind (Rebbe's son destined for greatness himself). All doors were open to him. He had easy access to all of the gedolai hador, and walked among the kings and princes of holiness of this generation. In time, he could easily have his own Chassidim.

But, he himself, had a warm genuine smile and true love for ANY Jew. As the son of the VERY highly respected Volover Rov, a major talmid chuchom and THE most respected name in kashrus today, he grew up in Satmar, with 'Toras Satmar' inbued is every cell of his body. His warm smile, and caring and charitible ways were known from Boro Park to Montreal, and from Williamburg to Kiryas Joel and from the Americas to Eretz Yisroel, as well as ever single Chassidishe neighborhood. He grew up knowing that amost all the Chassidim he knew would look first on shelves for his father's and uncle's hechsherim. (the Volover Rov and the Nirbartur Rov). Both his talmid chuchum father, and likewise his esteemed uncle were well known for elevating the world of kashrus certification to the highest level ever in history, with thoroughness, unbending policies of, "if our name is on it, it is as kosher as eating at our homes, and not built on heterim."

They, his father and uncle, the Volover and the Nirbartur, built this reputation by not only being strong, respected talmidei chachumim themselves, but really getting to know their way around commercial kitchens, and attaining an expert's knowlege of ingredients and procedures. Both famous, as their father was, for knowing each plant, each kitchen, and never "signing off" on other people's words.

Who did the Volover Rov and Rebbe send as a shaliach to India, as well as to other far off locations to personally make sure all was up to his ultra-high standards? Only EXPERTS, well versed in Torah and Kashrus, including his own son, Rav Aryeh Leibish.

Rav Aryeh Leibish was a shaliach of his father around the world, spending a good part of his personal time making sure YOU and I have the best in uncompromising kashrus.

But everywhere Rav Aryeh Leibish went, his warm loving smile came along. Like his chusheva father and uncle, his face was known in Chassidishe shuls around the world, and very often seen in Chabad houses, where they were very supportive of the work of the Chabad shlichim. Helping out each one as they passed through. Like his father and uncle, he often visited Chabad houses, and was a warm, loving "regular Yid", never putting on airs. Rav Aryeh Leibish was a shaliach himself, of his choshuva father Hurav Nuchum Efroyim Teitelbaum, the Volover Rebbe, Shlita, so he had an understanding of shlichus.

I have been speaking much about his father's side of the family, very high Satmar yichus, only because those are whom I personally know. But from what I understand, his yichus on his mother's side was no less important, and his marriage was a "prince marrying a princess." as he married into the family of similarly important Torah Giants.

Just to look at the face of Rav Aryeh Leibish was an experience. You knew you were in the presence of a humble man, full of holiness and Talmid Torah, but you also saw from the smile on his face, and the sparkle in his eyes, an Ahavas Yisroel that knew no bounds.

I apologize for any typos, misspellings, or grammatical errors. I am typing this through falling tears.
