India - Top Russian Counter-terrorism Expert: Mumbai Terrorists Trained By U.S. Experts In Pakistan To Fight Afghanistan |

"The handwriting and character of the Mumbai events demonstrates that they were not ordinary terrorists," said Vladimir Klyukin, an Afghan war veteran.
"Behind this terrorist attack there are 'Green Flag' special operations forces, which were created by the Americans in Pakistan, just an year before the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan, and in the initial period were under full US control," stressed Klyukin, a veteran of the special "Vympel" commando group of the former Soviet KGB.
He said for such guerrilla operations at least two-three years of preparatory work with the involvement of experienced instructors is required.
Klyukin did not rule out that the Mumbai attackers could have taken part in similar attacks in other regions.
"People from the streets, without any planning and training are simply not able to hold four big complexes in a city so long," Soviet special services veteran was quoted as saying by largest Russian Interfax news agency.
He also presumed that there were at least 50 attackers given the geography and scale of the strikes.
Klyukin lauded the "right" decision of the Indian authorities not to succumb to terrorist demands.
He, however, regretted that India lacks special anti-terror units similar to the Russian, Israeli, British or German.
Nearly 200 people were killed in the multiple terror attacks in the Indian financial capital, hitting five-star hotels and other targets frequented by Westerners.

The Americans obviously didn't train them directly; they trained older people who in trained trained these terrorists. Read the words carefully: "Behind this terrorist attack there are 'Green Flag' special operations forces, which were created by the Americans in Pakistan." The FORCES were trained by the US. "Forces" are simple nouns, such as Israel Defence Forces which were founded in 1948 and continue to operate. Are the members of the IDF the same men who fought in '48?
To the other commenter who said this Russian veteran "looks like the propagando minster of Iraq!!!", propaganda only work s when people read things superficially...

Please leave your propaganda at the door. Most of these terrorists were in their young to mid twenties that means that if the Russian withdrawal took place in 1989, these terrorists were at the most five to ten years of age. Somehow or some way terrorism is always the fault of the American or Jew.

america created & armed the taliban to fight the chechens in afghanistan. you see the cold war wasn't so cold after all. america & russia fought big time- except they were smart enough to get other people to fight the war for them, & stupid enough bec most if not all of these 'allies' came back & bit the hand that fed them. while I love this country, I must say that some of the people running it are are plain old stupid, or worse- corrupt.

I don't think he's saying that the Americans directly trained the terrorists. When the Russians invaded Afghanistan, we trained guerrillas to fight them. Many of these guerrillas belonged to the Pashtun tribe, which is very large and is on both sides of the Afghan-Pakistan border. We also trained the Pakistani intelligence service, ISI, which helped to set up the Afghan resistance. Once the Russians were forced out, many Pashtun and other guerrillas became loyal to the Taliban. The Pakistani intelligence service continues to this day to assist the Taliban and other Islamist terrorist groups, such as the Lashkar-I-Taiba group which may have been involved in Mumbai. So, the Americans didn't directly train the terrorists, but may have trained the people who did. Moral of the story - we should always think of the long-term consequences of our actions, not just the immediate ones.

Proof positive! In Russia, for example (we're speaking of today's "democratic" Russia) your posting an article with such accusations that you are leveling, notwithstanding the fact that you're posting "anonymous", would get you a knock on the door at 3AM, or thereabouts. So, you are lucky, after all that you live in this great (corrupt?) Democracy of ours! Like all the [other] whiners. They decry the faults of the USA, yet they force their way into this country legally or otherwise! I don't think Russia or China have a population of 21Million "Illegal" immigrants, or, --to be politically correct-- Undocumented aliens!!! If this country is sooo baaad, then why is everybody forcing their way in, and not in the opposite direction??!!!

The fact that the terrorist went to the Chabad house and asked foreigners if they were British or American shows this has nothing to do with Pakistan or Kashmir.
