In this photo provided by the Rabbinical Center of Europe wooden crosses are seen on the planned construction site of a Synagogue in Ukraine's southern city of Poltava, Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008. The local Jewish community accuses nationalist activists of erecting the crosses to stop the construction of the Synagogue.
The chief rabbi of the southern city of Poltava said today that a group of nationalist activists have put up seven wooden crosses on land allocated by local authorities for the synagogue.

Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Segal said it was a provocation aimed at stirring religious hatred in the city. No group has claimed responsibility.
Jewish groups complain that anti-Semitism persists in Ukraine and there is little respect for Jewish cemeteries and memorial sites.
