Washington, DC - As if President Bush doesn't have enough gaffes to atone for, he had to send out an apology to Jewish leaders this week.

As was reported, prominent Jews were aghast when invites they received to the official White House Hanukkah reception had a Christmas tree and Christmas wreaths on it. It prompted Brooklyn Jewish community leader Isaac Abraham to crack, "It's obvious . . . the Christmas tree is being taken out of the White House and the menorah is being brought in the back."

New invites went out with a menorah on them and a note saying, "Please accept our apologies as the invitation you previously received had the incorrect artwork on it."

I don't know how many Jewish leaders were "aghast," as you describe it. From what I read, almost all of them, religious or secular, realized it was an oversight committed by whoever os responsible for sending out these mass White House greeting cards and invitations. Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill!

I got an invitation & I didn't see any x-mas tree on it.
Oh, wait a second.
It's not from the White House. It's an old invitation from Ohel for their summer barbeque.
Oh, well, never mind. I'll keep checking my mailbox.

Really? Do you think it was Bush who went shopping with Laura to get cards and picked out the wrong one? It was a staff member, maybe even someone outsourced to India who overlooked the card. How is that a gaffe on Bush? He is thinking about how to make the constitution indelible before Obama gets in the White house(scary!)

I cant wait for all the comments by the obama kool-aid drinkers trying their best to find creative ways to criticize bush on this one

The president made a mistake. The error was made known to the powers that be, they owned up to the gaff and corrected it. An elected official apologizing? How refreshing? Will Bush's successor be so forthcoming?

Who is Isaac Abraham and what exactly does he lead in Brooklyn? What a ridiculous comment and even worse the poor judgment of the columnist who posted this quote as part of this news story. Can anyone make an honest mistake anymore? Why do we as Yidden seem to always believe that an error must contain malice aforethought?

Let's all remember that until President Bush came into the White House, there was no Chanukah party!
