Rovno, Ukraine - Unidentified assailants smashed windows in a synagogue in Rovno, Ukraine.

The incident occurred last night. Traces of the attack were discovered by Rabbi Schneur Schneerson.

The city's Jewish community feels sufficiently secure and the attack was something out-of-the-ordinary, the rabbi said.

"Perhaps the attack was due to the current local elections, which incited aggressiveness in some anti-Semitic brains," Schneerson was quoted as saying.

The Jewish Federation also said that a search for the people, who put up a Christian cross on the site allotted for a new Jewish community center, was continuing in the Ukrainian city of Poltava.

Poltava's Chief Rabbi Iosef Segal said that the crosses that were put up were removed. It was a provocation, the rabbi said.

23,500 Jews were killed in Rovno in 1942.

There is a memorial to them in the Beth David bais oilim in Elmont. (On the southwest corner of Jackson and Beth-El, I believe.)

Can you give us an idea of when it will happen?

It would be a shame to keep paying my mortgage if the world is ending in three months anyway. Might as well quit working and enjoy the time we have left in bais merash.
