Miami, FL - A well known real estate developer and renowned member of the Satmar community was one of two who died this morning in the Atlantic Ocean in North Miami Beach.

Yitzchak Rosenberg, owner of Certified Lumber in Williamsburg and owner and developer of several properties in Williamsburg, was pronounced dead on the scene after a riptide unexpectedly swept the group out into the ocean.

The second man was identified as Chaim Parnes, a diamond dealer who was robbed of $35,000 worth of merchandise, pistol whipped and had his tires slashed on a Thanksgiving 2015 visit to North Miami, according to Miami’s Local 10 News.  At the time, Parnes said he was grateful to have survived the encounter.

“If (you) take away life, (it) doesn’t come back,” Parnes said. “So I’m thankful for God. Today’s Thanksgiving. I’m giving up big time for God that I’m alive.”

The two were among a group of five visitors from Kiryas Joel and Brooklyn who were at Haulover Beach on 140th and Collins Avenue.  There were no lifeguards present in the area where the men were swimming, with signs posted warning beachgoers to swim only in guarded areas and warning of the dangers of rip currents, according to Erika Benitez, public information officer for Miami Dade Fire and Rescue.

“There is a lifeguard tower there but there was no lifeguard on duty,” Benitez told VIN News.  “We can only man so many towers and the no swimming signs were posted.”

Benitez said that a call came in at approximately 11:15 AM, advising of as many as four people possibly in the water.  By the time lifeguards reached the area, Aron Wurzberger and Yitzchok Englander, both of Kiryas Joel, had already managed to get out of the water.  A fifth member of the group also emerged from the water unharmed.

Officer George WaismanOfficer George Waisman

Officer George Waisman of the Bal Harbour police was on his way home from a court appearance when he heard the call for help. Finding himself near the scene, Waisman responded to the call, according to Captain Miguel Delarosa, public information officer for the Bal Harbour Police Department.

“Once he arrived at the sand there were two victims already on the shore and he was advised of a third victim still in the water,” said Delarosa.

Waisman and lifeguard Marcelo Lopez boarded a jet ski and went out into the water.

“Officer Waisman assisted the lifeguard in placing the victim on the platform on the jet ski,” said Delarosa. “Once the victim was on the platform they went ahead and transported the victim to the shore where Miami Dade Fire Rescue administered first aid.”

Emergency personnel performed CPR on both Rosenberg and Parnes who were pronounced dead at Aventura Hospital A third member of the group was transported to Mount Sinai Medical Center according to Miami Dade police.

Benitez said that today’s winds likely exacerbated the tricky conditions that are common in the area.

“Haulover is known to have strong currents,” said Benitez.  “We do have a lot of near drownings in the Haulover inlet area, which is about a quarter of a mile away.”

The fact that the area was deserted today is what likely appealed to the group in the first place, but Benitez warned that swimming without supervision in the area is highly discouraged.

“We emphasize the importance of swimming only at guarded areas of the beach where lifeguards are present,” said Benitez.

Activists in Miami are working with the medical examiner’s office to release the bodies of the two men as soon as possible so that they can be flown home for burial.

Both funerals are expected to be held Wednesday in New York.

The family IS reading this, I am actually sitting with a family member as we speak, and this is not taking away freedom of speech, this is simply a reminder to keep your opinions or theories to yourselves and not "Fir the eibishters cheshboinois".

We have a very abysmal track record of doing it, so it was just a friendly reminder to respect others.

Sadly, as a god fearing jew (if you are) you really don't have full freedom of speech. It is prohibited and a sin to bad mouth or slender another person. Apparently, you see it as a violation of your freedom and rights. Try Islam.

I wonder what certail means..Are u meaning to say curtail?
He was not curtailing (your word) freedom of speech, just pointing out something most people forget when tragedy hits.
And the fact that that statement really bothered you and no one else, well... contemplate why you have a hard time with that.
Perhaps you felt compelled to inject your personal opinion and bias into your comment, but had the good sense not to, but couldn't keep your mouth completely closed and had to berate the commenter.
Perhaps, just perhaps......

I read this story and my feeling is to express my sorrow about what happened. Why Hashem causes something to happen or not is not for us to judge. Yet, and I am sure the family will agree, people also need to take a personal lesson from this story, and not just say the only takeaway is that Hashem far the velt. This is not judging these people. We have all (many of us?) have done things that are risky. We need to keep this story in mind to remind us of the importance of safety (it is a Mitzvah as well).

I hope the families can be consoled. I think if someone else's life is saved as the awareness from this story, it can be a tremendous zechus and nechama for the family.

If the family can find positive in reading these comments, then fine, otherwise perhaps the best is for them to not read them. I agree criticism is not appropriate here. Regardless, there will be discussions and opinions offered here. We all know already what some people will say or think, despite any sense of civility we may share. So, really to avoid anger or hurt, I think the family is best off not reading the comment section.

In my experience, beaches can be empty until after lunch, which is when most people come to the beach. The only thing that is obvious, is that there was no lifeguard and a sign telling people to swim at their own risk. This same tragedy occurred last year in London, when a young chasidishe bochur drowned. Please, never ever swim without a lifeguard. It is now before summer vacation. Please don't stop telling your children to never ever swim without a lifeguard. Perhaps, our schools can educate our children before the summer months. Yes, I know this is what was decreed from above, but we can still learn and follow water safety procedures.

My heart goes out to the 2 families . May the good deeds of the "niftorim" go ahead of them to their final resting places. With this said I will post the following, hoping it will help someone else C'V in the same danger.

IF caught in a riptide DO NOT FIGHT IT, DO NOT PANIC let it pull you out, and swim parallel with the tide but slowly try to get to one side. Even if you can't get to a side, eventually it will disseminate. Once you are out of the tide swim back to shore, or if you don't have the strength float till help comes or slowly float and paddle with the waves till it pushes you back to shore.

Look at the beach - do NOT SWIM if the shore is curved like a "U' shape! Even a little bit can cause the currents coming from the 2 sides of the U to meet in middle and then as it goes back out can cause these strong tides. Shorelines keep changing all the time, if a Lifeguard sees it has formed a "U" they usually put up a sign "no swimming". The safest swim is where a reverse U is in the shoreline.

Hope this will help any one else caught in one. Chazal already said you must teach your son how to swim.

If you realy want there are many non good things you can find on YR, he was a real 'Aroiny' (look in your dictionary for its defenition- its a type of caracter) but who wants to talk dirty politics in such a time!? Baruch Dayan HaEmet. There is always an opportunity to judge favorably and always a good opportunity to be quiet and not say a beep. This beach was deserted except for the Yidden. It's obvious that was being used as a mikveh and that there was no pritzut or this would have not happened. Next time you want to judge bite your tongue. HaSh-m is the true judge and only he knows why this tzadikim were taken.

Why was it "used as a 'mikveh?' A deserted beach & ocean is good for swimming...good exercise and enjoy the beauty of HaShem. Todah

The Beach they were at is a very nice area.. its where the bay and the ocean meet, right after you cross the bridge from bal harbor over to surfside... but the collision of the bay and ocean caused very rough waters.. I once kayaked nearby with my brother and a friend and it was VERY scary.. I would never go near that water again unless in a large boat.

Master of the universe, your people seek out and explore your creations, olam hazeh hagashmiyut! To take 2 good souls that just wanted to explore your creatins in the framework of tznius in privacy.. im sure the berdichiver rebbe reb levikl would have been a advocate for us!

And if you don’t have the wherewithal to understand my simple comment, that is your problem.

I guess there's no sense in arguing with someone who answered someone's comment with a less than stellar answer.
DEAR, it was you who was thinking very simply mindedly when you answered with your first post..
So let me take a risk here and open your mind.
What they meant was, on a spiritual level, to find reasons why this happened, looking for "deeeeeeper" answers than the one implied by you and the article. For anyone with reading comprehension of 2nd grade level ,would get that. The implications were of a different sort...however, it takes a very simple unsophisticated mind to just read a statement in a matter of fact way. Most people who learn, have a broader perspective on how to understand a statement.Enuf said.
And... I'm not trying to hurt you, however, your hubris in trying to put me down warranted my humbling you a bit.
Shalom and peace onto you.

Guys what's wrong with us ? why when five Jews meet on a blog we have to fight, criticize, and bash each other ? there is a total of 26 messages regarding a tragedy that occurred to a family,a family is devastated, little kids are crying for their grandfathers, what do we do? We fight, only 26 messages were posted and already a couple of them are negative, are people really siting and waiting the whole day looking for posts, with what post could I argue with, whom could I bash today, whom could I hurt today and call a name, are u guys for real? Grow up, get a job and stop fighting.

What I meant to say is that the tragedy for itself is big enough no matter with what jewish man it should've happen, so now its not the time to mix in dirty politics. The tragedy would be the same if it would've happen to Saul Perlstein Ch"V. So what I meant to say is that if he starts to mix in filthy polotics it will come up the non good parts of him too -as Mesirah or Arko'ot- and now is not the time for this to be mentioned because even on Aveiros that Tshuvah doesn't help, Chazal tell us that Yoim Hmiseh does help. So again, if you'll start with politics his bad deeds will come up as well so its better to stay quiet!

This tragedy brings to mind an incident, which occurred to my family in 1955, at Riis Park, in the Rockaways. It was a very hot summer day, and my younger brother and I, along with my Father were wading in the ocean. We were not that far from shore, and there were dozens of people there, along with lifeguards. All of a sudden, a gigantic wave struck all of us, and knocked us down. Although I was able to quickly stand up, my younger brother was knocked under the water, and would have been dragged out, into the ocean. Boroch Hashem, my Father quickly located my younger brother, and pulled him out. The entire incident occurred, and was over in seconds. We were extremely lucky on that day. I still vividly recall that incident, even though it happened, nearly sixty one years ago!
