Albany, NY – NYS Bill Would Require Yeshivas, Private Schools To Report Sex Abuse Allegations

Albany, NY – A Republican Assemblyman is pushing for passage of legislation which would require private school administrators to report allegations of sexual abuse. Unlike public school officials who are mandated reporters, no such law exists on the books for private schools. This exception for private schools has contributed to many unreported incidents of child sex abuse at private institutions such as Horace Mann, Yeshiva University High School, and Poly Prep.

“The sad fact is so many students have been abused in schools and it is not reported,” Assemblyman David McDonough (R-Merrick) told the Daily News (http://nydn.us/1swBatZ). “You can’t continue to sweep this stuff under the rug. Parents are surprised to learn that their kids are not protected under the laws of New York. I’m confident we will send a bill to the Governor. This is for the protection of kids.”

Mary Pulido, executive director of the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, applauded McDonough’s legislation. “The private schools can do whatever the heck they want in terms of sexual abuse. It is such an easy fix. It doesn’t require any money, and it gives private school kids the same protections as public school students.”

McDonough’s introduced his bill in the Assembly last month with bipartisan support of 23 sponsors, but does not yet have a Senate sponsor.

This is confusing. NYS Licensed School Administrators, Principals and teachers are all mandated reporters.

jews are the people of the book, we are holy people chosen by hashem, our whole family life and general way of life is 100 times more holy and pure than that of the gentiles, which btw cause alot of jealousy and hate by the goyim who see their family life disintegrate, and this whole idea that gentiles care more about the honor of our children is a big bitter joke fomented by a bunch of self hating disaffected and bitter people, jew-hating gentiles and self hating jews, the curriculum of goyim in their schools is full of sexual and romantic references, whereas ours is holy and pure, whenever i see someone complaining about molesters in the community, i know to stay away from that person, because its either a self hating jew, or a guy with an agenda, of course it exists, but not more than in non-jewish circles, and not to the extent that they paint it, so for those of you with nothing better to do than to cream molester! molester!, get a life! study some talmud! give tsedakah! help and older guy or girl find a shidduch! stop focusing on some made up thing that doesnt exist

rav moshe , reb yakov , & rav pam knew of many molesters at diff levels i was pretty close to all 3 – i dont remember them saying call the cops except possibly once? i’m confused was it that they didnt fully comprehend the severity, did they feel the perpetrator had charatah & can do teshuvah , was it that they felt they couldnt pasken such a dinei nefashos q/ i dont know but its clear that they didnt call the cops nor tell the talmidim and there were plenty of stories
