Al-Nahari, a Sephardi Orthodox Jew, was apparently very active in promoting a resurgence of Yiddishkeit in his native country. He was a melamed, he maintained a minyan in his own home and, most recently, he spent time in Israel studying shechita, a skill desperately needed in Yemen today.

The motive appears to be tensions between the local Jewish community and non-Jewish muslim religious factions based in other cities which do not share the same good relationship with the Jewish community as do non-Jewish locals.

Al-Nahari is survived by a wife and 9 children with the olderst 15 year old Girl.

Authorities are reported to have a suspect in custody and has admitted to the crime.

Raida has 55 observant Jewish family’s.

Al-Nahari had visited upstate New York’s Kiryas Joel many times as a recipient of, and liaison for, that Chasidic town’s Vaad Hatzolas Yehudei Teiman, run by the respected Rabbi Yitzchok Chaim Freund, a Satmar Chosid. Many in the Satmar community were saddened to learn of Al-Nahari’s death.

Unfortunately, we felt very compfortly the last few years in golus so Hashem is reminding us that we are in golus and that we should pray hard for moshiach to come.

Satmar has been involved is saving and helping the Yemenite communities for many years. They also assure that the people they save and bring here remain within the traditions of their own Yemenite community and traditions. All this through the leadership of Horav Aron Satmer Rebbe Shlita.

    CHALLENGE:
Hang out in Satmar for a few weeks. You will see many, many people from ALL walks of Judaism, all welcome there, NONE “converted” to Satmar.

Sure, some do chose to adopt the Satmar dress, but that is usually because they did not have their own minhagim, or they just liked it.

why would Moslems attack an anti-Zionist Jew (who was clearly targeted for himself, and didn’t just “happen” to be in the “wrong place at the wrong time”)? I thought they got along and were only anti-Zionist, not anti-Jewish

I bet it was the Mossad who killed him just like the zionists killed Dr. Dahaan, and they just want to blame the moslems so they can get the rest of the Yemenite Jews to Israel to be cannon fodder for their wars

Wow, you mean to tell me that even in Yemen ( that yidden loveing oasis of tolerance and understanding) a Jew is Not safe. I may have to re-think my plans about moving back to Bahrain now, as well, despite the King’s sincere invitation.

Don’t get so excited about Satmar. Yes, part of what they do in this matter is good, but there are a number of instances of families they brought to Kiryas Yoel, and then took away the kids from the parents to be raised by Satmar families. To take kids away from their mothers is a crime.

On Monday the 25. February I was actually personally in Moshe’s Nahari’s hy’d house. I was visiting Yemen together with Berel Herschkovits of Monroe (yes a Satmarer Askan) We hired him to be a Melamed (Mori) in Sanah for elder boys who have no cheder. I had a strong liking to him, cheerfull, full of “Gutzkeit” a Schmeichel Lebedik & Moleh Chen. He had an aldrely father in Raidah, that’s one of the reasons they did not leave Yemen.

Satmar seem to be the only people who care for them. The Yemenites feel at home with them because they are wearing long Peioth like them. I did not feel at all that Satmar is trying to influence thei ways and Minhogim. Those Teenagers they are bringing to the USA to learn in Yeschivos in order to become Manhigim back in Teman may have Satmarer influences – purely because there are no Teiman Yeshivos in Chul.
