New York – New York Liquor Law Will Allow Sunday Boozing With Brunch

New York – New York state has passed a new liquor law that will allow people to order alcoholic drinks on Sunday mornings to cap their brunch.

The old blue law — a remnant of the Prohibition era — bans restaurants and bars from serving alcohol before noon. But some have long been flouting the law at the risk of being shut down.

Last week, state legislators voted in favor of a looser law that allows alcohol to be served Sundays starting at 10 a.m.

The bill’s main political backer was Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who says the extra morning drinking hours will boost alcohol sales.

The Democrat must now sign the legislation after the state Senate and Assembly approved it. It would be effective two months after Cuomo signs it.
