Long Beach Township police say the 24-year-old Port Chester woman and a male companion were knocked off their feet by a wave and then pulled out by the current around 11 a.m. Saturday.

Witnesses had started performing CPR on the woman before police arrived on scene, and emergency responders later used a defibrillator on her. She was first taken to a nearby hospital but was later flown to another hospital in Philadelphia, where she died early Sunday.

The woman’s name was not released. It wasn’t clear if the man with her was injured in the incident.

Where were the lifeguards? What was the cause of death?

To #1 -Are you being sarcastic, or are you just plain dense? The cause of drowning was probably drowning, as a result being sucked under by the rip tide.
