The Journal News (http://lohud.us/2aqtcxz xx) says the subpoenas are related to contributions Astorino’s campaign received from a Manhattan businessman and the county’s appointment of the donor’s friend as a police chaplain.
Astorino says the investigation is “necessary” because two out of 13,000 donors may have done something wrong in New York City and elsewhere.
The Republican reiterated that there’s no connection between his campaign contributions and the chaplain appointment.
The federal corruption probe has resulted in bribery charges against New York Police Department officers and implicated businessmen with ties to Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio’s election campaign. De Blasio is not accused of any wrongdoing.
