The Fox News commentator was responding to first lady Michelle Obama’s remarks in her speech at the Democratic National Convention on Monday, when she praised social progress in the United States.
“I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves,” Mrs. Obama said. “And I watch my daughters, two beautiful, intelligent, black young women playing with their dogs on the White House lawn.”
O’Reilly said on his show Tuesday that “Michelle Obama is essentially correct in citing slaves as builders of the White House, but there were others working as well.”
O’Reilly’s comments have drawn criticism on social media.
O’Reilly on Wednesday tweeted that “far left loons” had distorted what he said about the first lady’s statement. It wasn’t clear what he considered distorted.
“She’s correct and I provided facts,” he said, promising to talk more about it on his show.

When we had slaves in america we also had indentured servants and other types of slavery , russia had the serfs , a type of slave that ended in the 1860s . In any case it’s over now so fuggedaboutit.

As long as Rupert Murooch is cleaning house at Fox News (including the firing of that sexual pervert, Roger Aisles), he should also get rid of Bill O’Reilly. O’Reilly’s sexual harassment of a female producer in 2004, cost Fox millions. Also, he told a Jewish viewer who objected to his yearly emphasis on Christmas, that “if you don’t like it here, to move to Israel”. In addition, he defended U.S. Army soldiers who were accused of mass murder and rape. However, when they were convicted in federal court, and sentenced to life, he never issued a retraction. Also, he minimized a complaint of a Jewish mailman in N.J., who claimed discrimination. Without having the facts in front of him, O’Reilly stated “I doubt if this is true”. Last, O’Reilly humiliates, shouts down, and demeans people who disagree with him. Therefore, it is time for him to go, now!!

All the man meant was the following. At that point in history, slvery was the accepted norm Thus, while morally very wrong, its something the whole society did and one can not detach himself from his/ her environment. Despite societal norms here is how America shined. The society as a whole treated slaves like animals , the USA on the other hand at least treated them a human beings.That does not make we did correct but based on what was noraml at the times we did the best we can. That was his point.
