Waterbury, CT – Holiday Inn management and staff here have worked with kosher caterers for years now, since the days when the hotel was run by Connecticut Grand and then Sheraton.

The growing local Orthodox community, many of its members transplanted from New York and New Jersey, as well as observant Jews from those states, celebrate their big simchas at the hotel. In addition to relationships with no fewer than 11 kosher caterers, the Holiday Inn boasts the fourth largest ballroom in Connecticut.
So before the new CoCo Key indoor water resort opened at the hotel in October, it was natural to consider a request from representatives from the Orthodox community for “kosher” swim sessions.
“They were helpful in educating us,” says Kate Terricciano, CoCo Key’s director of marketing and sales: Curtain the windows, staff the special male- and female-only swims with lifeguards of the corresponding gender, offer Orthodox family swims. The after- and before-hours sessions draw families and institutional groups from Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey.
The hotel offers Shabbat packages for Orthodox groups, with special swims scheduled after Ma’ariv services and a kosher Continental breakfast. “Kosher Swim Day” overnight packages are scheduled for late January, when many yeshivot throughout the Tri-State area are on break.
Since November, CoCo Key has scheduled separate swims for 2,000 adults and children, including groups from yeshivot, synagogues, and schools. “They can have fun and not have to worry about modesty issues,” Terricciano says.
Its crazy how fast that community is growing. I am there like 3 times a week for mincha when I have real estate buisness to take care of in the area.
What an amazing oppertunity to be frum . At a time that we are loosing many of out youth to leave Torah’s ways its is nice to see yet another chance for people to enjoy themselves in the ways of torah
WOW WHAT ELSE WILL THEY TRY TO MAKE KOSHER
We need KOSHER swim…so we can actually partake in swimming! It’s not a question of what will they make kosher next….This is a neccesity if we are to be able to swim!
What a great service this hotel offers the frum community.
Good for them, a beautiful community, with kind and gentle people.
When will we have a place in Brooklyn to get a “kosher swim”?
anyone have contact info for this hotel?
I stayed in that hotel last Pesach while it was under construction looks like it should be very nice.
I can’t wait to go. My Rav gave me a heter to swim on Shabbat, as long as there is no music playing near the pool and I drip dry.
Seriously… this is a great idea. I hope more frum communities spring up in areas away from the reach of tax and spend liberals, such as the unelected Patterson, Bloombag, the Jerkinator and Corzine. The Nutmeg State is not a cheap state, but at least Waterbury is affordable.
I would love to see more communities develop, or expand exisitng ones, in the right to work southern states.
to #11 ..a ‘shomer torah umitzvah’ rav could noyt have given you a heter to swim on shabbos
excuse please..post #11 is addressed to #10 p.s. by the way, what has it got to do with music playing?
They also do Kosher swim in Mt Laurel NJ at CoCo Key there as well. We went with our camp and it was great!
