Pete Czerwinski says he’d never eaten a latke before consuming about seven pounds of them today at Zan’s in Lake Grove.
The Toronto bodybuilder says he’s just “a power eater” whose brain never signals that he’s full, according to the Long Island daily Newsday.
Association of Independent Competitive Eaters Chairman Arnie Chapman says Czerwinski demolished the contest’s previous record of 31 latkes, set in 2006.
Brooklyn college student Will Millender took second place Sunday with 29 latkes.
The pancakes are a traditional treat for Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish Festival of Lights. It started Sunday evening.
I hope he has a refua sheleima
Good luck: the heart burn may last through out Chanuka
This is just disgusting.
so now he needs to see 2 doctors immediately, a gastronologist, and more important – a good psychiatrist…

How big were the latkes? Hard to compare with the previous record if we don’t know.

Well I made some latkes tonite, and I am sure they were better than ZANS.
I did not count how many I ate. But I made lots and lots of them and they are all GONE. Ate em while I made em! Fresh and hot and one at a time!
They were freshly grated Idaho potatoes, with some eggs and a little salt.
Fried in olive oil…..and yummy. No heartburn yet……

Nobody looks jewish to me in that picture, sounds like a bunch of homeless took a grab for a free meal!
just the other day I heard a vort about how eating contests are a terrible abomination… basically one should eat to serve hashem, food is sacred not a game… something along thiose lines. kind of funny to read about this after that.

These eating contests are not Jewish and I think they are even ossur al pi halocho. Eating so much so fast is 1) not healthy, 2) bizoyon ochlin, 3) bal tashchis.
It is a cheap gimmick, which we should not take part in.
Is the deli that put it on even kosher? Would you eat there? Maybe it’s not a coincidence that the competitors mentioned don’t even seem to be Jewish.
This is not a Jewish thing, Greeks or others can do it if they wish, but it’s not something for the Jewish people. That goes for all year round, but all the more so on Chanukah !
It’s funny to see all these people get they’re panties up in a bunch cause some dude fressed down a bunch of Latkes, chill the heck out! They taste good! Eat some!
is he even planning to go on a diet?
