This election marks the second time that Felder is running unopposed for re-election and the third time that he is running for the State Senate seat representing the 17th District which includes Borough Park, Flatbush and a small portion of Sheepshead Bay. But while Felder has run on both the Democratic and Conservative tickets in the last two elections, this year marks the first time that he has gotten the nod from Republicans as well.

“A party line is not a religion,” Felder told VIN News. “It’s a business and I am in the business of doing whatever I can to best serve my constituents.”

Felder regularly crosses the line to caucus with the GOP in the Senate and in a statement released today, Majority Leader John Flanagan praised Felder as a “superb senator.”

“He’s an important voice in the chamber that continues to put progress over partnership,” said Flanagan.

Calling Felder “a partisan leader and a trusted public servant,” Flanagan said that unlike their counterparts in Washington DC, New York State senators have distinguished themselves by working together on behalf of those they represent.

Felder, who collected more than the 1,000 signatures he needed from registered Republicans to earn his place on the ballot, said that party labels bear little meaning for him.

“You have to analyze a party’s platform to decide who you are most aligned with,” said Felder. “It’s irrelevant what you call them, it’s more reflective of doing my best for my constituents.”

Simcha Felder is more than just a mensch. He is an exceptional baal midos tovos. A greeting and a smile to everyone he meets. And from his heart, not just a put on. He is a valued resource not just for the Jewish community but for all the people of NY State and the legislature. More power and hatzlocho to you, Reb Simcha my friend.
