Orange County, NY - While Kiryas Joel officials continue to seek legal avenues of expanding the village’s borders to accommodate the community’s anticipated growth, neighboring areas are faced with an influx of Chasidic residents who are putting down roots in Orange County outside Kiryas Joel.

The towns of Monroe, Woodbury and South Blooming Grove have all seen dozens of new Chasidic homeowners, both those who cannot find housing in Kiryas Joel as well as those who are moving outside the village looking for more open space, greenery and greater privacy.

In an in-depth article, the Times Herald Record explores the changing faces of these three towns, as the continued Kiryas Joel housing shortage prompts more and more Chasidic families to look for housing outside the village’s borders.

I'm not sure what the article means by "legal" means of expanding the borders of KJ. Does that suggest that if the legal options are unsuccessful, they can fall back on illegal options?? Perhaps its time for the ehrliche followers of Rav Aaron to consider building a new community in the wide open spaces of upstate New York, western NJ or yenavelt rather than fighting with their neighbors who have had enough Satmar
