Carter Page, a former investment banker whose views on Russia have caused controversy in the past, made the comments in an opinion piece for Russia’s state-controlled Sputnik news agency that was published on Thursday.

“From Syria to Ukraine to world energy policy, Russia remains an essential piece in the puzzle for solving many of Washington’s most pressing geostrategic challenges,” Page wrote in the article.

The U.S. government had shown a “complete disregard for Russia’s interests”, Page said, saying this had fueled a sharp deterioration in bilateral relations.

Trump, the Republican nominee for next month’s U.S. election, named Page as being among five foreign policy advisers in March. Both Trump and Page are known for their more conciliatory stance toward Russia, in contrast to the views of many prominent Republicans.

In a speech in Moscow in July, Page criticized Western countries for what he said was their “hypocritical focus on democratization” in the post-Soviet world.

I fail to see why Russia is wrong. Facts are we stand more to gain than loose from a Russian alliance. It’s true that Putin is no saint. But neither is he a mass murderer or some violator of major human rights. (yes he did knock off a few opponents and lock up dissents and journalists but its not on massive scale). Moreover, we have bigger and more pressing issues to deal with than Russia. We have the rise of Islamic extremism. We can team up with Putin and beat them rather than continue fighting 3 wars at once in Syria. After all we teamed up with Stalin to defeat Hitler and Stalin was alot worse.

To sum it up the way I see it there are two reasons to make enemies with someone.
    1) They violate human rights on a massive scale. The key is massive scale.
    2) They threaten our existence. (Yes Russia may threaten some allies in Eastern Europe but they don’t threaten us.)

Hitler + Stalin directly led to the invasion of Poland. Trump + Putin will lead to a disaster for him on Nov 8. The GOP will pay afterwards for their cowardice in the face of fascism.
