Spring Valley - The Ben Gilman Medical and Dental Clinic agreed to open seven days a week following complaints that its policy of closing on Saturdays - because the staff observes Sabbath - was preventing members of the predominantly working-class community from getting basic health care.
The clinic, had to be forced by S. Ram Nagubandi, the Rockland human rights commissioner, to promise it would open on Saturdays. Community Medical and Dental Care Inc., which runs Ben Gilman and a sister clinic in Monsey, were closing both on Shabbas.
