Remember that this Man has RUNAWAY from Algeria due to Muslim Pogroms on Jews in Algiers and yet he is not even safe on the streets of Paris.

I have friends on Paris you cannot walk with a yarmulke normally Jews have to wear casket hats.

For your information, Sarkozy is not jewish. He has a jewish grand father. Indeed hes an american loving guy.
Regarding wearing a kippa in the streets of Paris, its totally allowed. Some people choose to wear a hat instead as its not as obvious. Life for jews in france is not ideal and thats why a lot of french people make their Aliyah. Its not ideal but its possible! Jewish communities in France are thriving!

I know Désiré and the family personally and I want to add a few more details and minor corrections. First of all, he has a huge, warm personality and served a broad community and is well loved. He has a big family that was forced out of Algeria and this reverberates through many corners.

Some minor corrections are that he was left for dead but managed to crawl to the street to be found. It was about 15 minutes until the police were notified but the koach that it took to crawl to the street after such a devastating wound is astounding. This will to live should help him get through what will, G-d willing, be a long and arduous recovery process.

There is a lot of speculation that this is an anti-semitic act and it may very well be, though it could also be a drug addict upset over a prescription denied, etc. The climate for Jews in France is not good now. Synagogues are being burned as in Toulouse today, and there are many anti-Israel demonstrations with violence.

Dr. Amsellem has 2 daughters in the NY area and a son and wife in Paris.
