Gaza City - Israel Launches Three-Hour-Long 'Humanitarian Cease-Fire' |
|
Gaza City - The IDF announced on Wednesday that the army would cease operations in Gaza for three hours in order to allow emergency aid into the Gaza Strip unmolested.
Israel had said late Tuesday that it had agreed to set up a "humanitarian corridor" to ship vital supplies to the people living in the Gaza Strip.
The Prime Minister's Office said in a statement that the humanitarian corridor idea came from the UN Security Council, and that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert accepted it.
A statement early Wednesday said that the goal of the corridor was to "prevent a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip."
A defense official told the Jerusalem Post that the purpose of the corridor was both to allow civilians to leave their homes and get supplies from the warehouses of international aid organizations, and to offer time for repairs to infrastructure that had been damaged since the start of the operation.
The official warned, however, that should Hamas fire at Israeli forces during the three hours, the IDF would respond accordingly.
Israel insisted that it has allowed enough supplies into the territory during the past 11 days of conflict, but the UN countered that there was already a humanitarian crisis there because of shortages of food, fuel and medicine.

They need to check every single thing that goes in. These "aid" organizations are fronts for terrorism.
And did the Moslem terrorists allow "aid" into Mumbai? Israel is foolish to do this, it won't change public opinion anyway.

I hate to say this, but I think it’s about time the bombing slows down. I am a frum Chasidic Jew and therefore root for the Israelis. However, it is very depressing watching those little kids in the hospitals begging for their Mom and Dad. It brings back memories of Moishele in India. I know the two stories are far apart from each other, but a kid suffering is a kid suffering in my book. Being a dad myself I can’t help it but feel sorry for these kids in Gaza. Unfortunately I don’t think the Israelis have much of a choice here, but I think the civilian casualties are way too great. The Israelis have to go in on the ground and root out the Hamas terrorists that way; and yes, take bigger risks with their soldiers. That’s the definition of sacrificing for your freedom. The Americans did just that in Fallujah. They could have saved many soldiers by bombing from the air instead of entering on the ground. Continuing the bombing from the air is killing too many civilians and not getting the job done. Also, how do you expect the world to look at this when they see 10 Israelis killed vs. 500+ Gazans? I know the world is full of anti-semites, but I think in this case even non anti-semites might look at this and say it’s too brutal. You can’t expect people to feel sorry for you when all you have to show for is a hole in a building in Sedrot and the other side is showing pictures of kids soaked in blood. I hope the Arab world comes to their senses and forces Hamas to accept the terms for a cease fire.

How dare you- You, and others like you are the reason we're in this mess. You would feel better if we had some dead Jewish children next to the holes in the walls, instead of just the holes. (in Sderot) What kind of drugs are you on, anyway? We protect and evacuate our children-They Run towards the Fire, and look for CNN. Please apologise, or stop posting. It isn't too much of a stretch to refer to you as a traitor.

This is NUTS. What is the big deal about humanitarian needs - the Gazans elected Hamas - the Gazans support Hamas - the Gazans are Hamas.
Oh feel sorry for the poor babies - whose parents use them as human shields and political weapons.
These Hamas Gazans are wholly EVIL people as are the UN officials who help them continue this evil.
Would the Allies have supplied the people of Dresden with food and medicine during the Allied bombing? HELL NO!!!

you are absolutely correct on all accounts. I guess we are living in a Parrallel universe, topsy-turvy world , or whatever you want to call it. I think the old superman comics called it 'Bizzarro".
CNN invented just a few years ago the term and concept "Dissproportionate Response', and the terrorists, and liberals, fake groups like Amnesty International have glomed onto and never looked back.

It is war, but it is war, Israeli style, which is more closely related to the card game "War", than to actual shooting war. The way Israel conducts war is to take baby steps, as in another childhood game (Mother, May I)
