An Israeli firefighter looks at the damage made after a rocket fired from Lebanon hit a building in the northern Israeli coastal town of Nahariya, Thursday Jan. 8, 2009. Lebanese militants fired at least three rockets into northern Israel early Thursday, striking a crowded nursing home and threatening to open a second front for the Jewish state as it pushed forward with its bloody offensive in the Gaza Strip. Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says the rockets fell Thursday around the town of Nahariya, five miles south of the Lebanese border. Rescue services say least two people were lightly wounded in a nursing home.
Israeli defense officials say the military has been on alert for rocket attacks by Lebanon's Hezbollah militia since Israel intensified its offensive against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the latest attack.
The BBC's Mike Sergeant in Jerusalem says this is a very dangerous moment in Israel's conflict.
The fear in the past few days has been that the violence in Gaza could spread to northern Israel and the Lebanese border area.
At the same time as northern barrage six rockets from Gaza hit towns in southern Israel.

The Israeli military said it returned fire toward the source of the rockets after the attack, they believe that the rocket attacks from Lebanon were carried out by a Palestinian group not by Hezbulla.
The Israeli military warned civilians in the western Galilee region to stay close to shelters in the aftermath of Thursday's attack.
The Lebanon's prime minister has condemned the rocket attacks on Israel from his country as well as the Jewish state's retaliation.
In a statement, Prime Minister Fuad Saniora says the attack from south Lebanon was designed to undermine stability.

the rockets from lebanon will definitely create opening of a new front.i think it was expected , and israel will respond with the proper action. i hope it wasnt an official act of hizballah, knowing , very well what the consequences will be. iran most probably told some of their cohorts to fire and lets see the reaction.
in my opinion , iran may fire rockets also< chas vesholem, which definitely bring the conflict to greater proportions.
we need to be mispallel to hashem that a yeshuah comes forth as soon as possible.

Israel will try to ignore it and hope that it's not Hezbollah.(As far as I can tell it's not)
Israel definitely doesn't want a second front opening now......with the world's outrage already peaking ,Israel will have to bow to the world's general horror(however misguided) unfortunately and not do whats right for their citizens....what a crazy world we live in.
With that said;I know I'll get attacked for saying this-and I don't care ,but in my opinion Israel will have to pursue diplomatic alternatives .They have to isolate Hamas by delegitimatizing them and appealing to the average Gazan who does want peace just like most ordinary citizens .They only support Hamas because they feel it's their only option but if Israel and the world offers an alternative like making Gaza a demilitarized zone with international peacekeepers,Gazans will dump Hamas ideology and do whats right by renouncing them.

Israel will have to pursue diplomatic alternatives. There, now I said it too.
Israel cannot declare war on 375 million Arabs and 1.5 billion Muslims and hope to survive. It's suicide.
Diplomacy is the only hope and Israel's current leadership is not capable. Israel would be better off with someone who is used to negotiating in Jordan and Syria for contract manufacturing and also in Bentonville AR for purchasing to conduct negotiations. I know a dozen clothing manufacturers in Brooklyn who have more experience in diplomacy than Tzipi Livni.

What you are referring to was a second round of booms which took place a few minutes later. Those were booms. The first one was a rocket. BH the good guys shot back into Lebanon.
(Reports are that President Clinton claimed they his an asprin factory just like he did in retaliation.)

You are right. Israel must not get involved with this game about who did it, waiting for a group to "claim resposibility", Its immaterial-It came from Lebanon, thats all that is needed, and pretty straight-forward, we know it did not from Koala Lumpur, End of Discussion-Fire back hard at Lebanon. Did you see where the prime minister of Lebanon is condeming Israel for responding to the assault! I guess "condemnation of Israel is a good "stock" to own right now, really going up.

As if diplomacy ever helped! Get it into all your heads, it will never work, negotiating wont work. They are bent on destroying Israel no matter what it takes! That is their agenda, so what kind of negotiating are you looking at? As for #14 comment" Israel cannot declare war on 375 million Arabs and 1.5 billion Muslims and hope to survive. It's suicide" Now what happened to your Emunah and Bitochen?? We have already had a war remember The Yom Kippur War?? and you remember what happened...You forgot one thing we have HASHEM on our side...so whatever happens either way is in Hashem's hands, not in the soldiers, not in the Arab Animals....only Hashem controls the world... We have to daven, give tzedakah and do TSHUVAH.....for we are Hashem's "chosen!!

Not Surprised
I would really like to talk in great length about this latest attack but I will keep it rather brief. I wonder how many people were shocked when the news came that missiles were coming from the other. Unfortunately I can’t say I was surprised. If there are two sides fighting and one sides ends with a tie that means the problem is still there waiting for a convenient time to show up again and fight stronger.
Just like in WW2 France assumed the wall can protect against the enemy and they were wrong. Also the deal that the Allies made with the Nazis before the war quickly unraveled even worse then before the war started. The same thing applies here.
Hezbollah is just looking for the opportunity to strike Israel at its weakest point. As Israel struggles against its destroyers to the south they want to furthered weekend Israel to the north. Although this can cause the opposite and cause Israel to strengthen their resolve.
