New York City - Gem Bandits Using Chasidic Garb To Disguise, An Inside Job - Cops |
|
Investigators said Dialite Imports on W. 46th St. was wallowing in red ink. "The place was about six months behind on the rent and more than a million bucks in debt," a police source said. "On top of they recently got a new insurance policy."
To pull off the robbery, the bandits had to sneak past cameras and security to snatch an estimated $4 million in precious stones.
Detectives think someone in the firm "may have cut some kind of deal" with the two holdup men, the source said. Workers and their bosses were being questioned. The bandits were 5-feet-9 and 5-feet-7; both appeared to weigh about 170 pounds.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES), and enter TIP577.

Trust Again
Well I guess those of us who were taken aback or shocked about the story can now breathe a sigh of relief that there is at least a possibility that this was actually an inside job. Either way security definitely needs to be steeped up around the Diamond district.
The question is that until this is clarified for sure will people trust each other or will there be a new wave of mistrust to come. That is the question that I assume time will tell. I am waiting to see .

Shah, the store's owner, said Insurance-company investigators told him not to discuss the robbery.
And the big tip off was in yesterdays article:
"They told me I cannot say anything right now," he said. (the owner)
The owner was NEVER told this according to police officials. The owner just did not want to talk to much because his words might come back to haunt him.
An insurance adjuster with Lloyd's of London, who said he was investigating the robbery, told The Post that the take may have been well over $4 million.
The police officials sais the owners had an estimate of 4 million within 2 hours of the "heist" and nobody has figures until days or weeks later but somehow these guys knew the amount that was stolen!
These "robbers" went around the security instead of bineg checked in or signing the book at the desk.
This was not the most proffessional crew!

Duh. Didn't someone mention that it was an inside job on yesterdays comment section? Just look at the beard. A black guy wearing a beard and having payos is a red flag!
